Danny caddyshack Noonan Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Harley is a "capable vehicle for parade and ceremonial use." Mmmmokay.
basilr Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 The article says they are buying the R1200S. I thought the police model was the RT. I wonder how they will look all tricked out.
dirtrider Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I wonder how they will look all tricked out. Linkey
George S. Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 BMW 0-100MPH 11 seconds H-D 0-100MPH 31 seconds Now I know what they mean by "American IRON"!
David13 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I think the police model is the RT-P. Regardless of what the article says, I suspect that is the model they will be getting. Now, about that Michigan State Police blue on those bikes. I like that blue. That is just about a perfect blue. It reminds me of the blue and maize. And the Maize and Blue. dc
krussell Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Ran into a couple of these last week... One of the local towns went from 1150RTs to the Victory. Officer I talked said they really like them, considered them a major improvement.
BailyD Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 If they are doing highway work I agree the bmw is the better bike.....city work the harley is every bit as capable. those prices quoted absolutely don't seem right (I priced them out for our dept.) I don't know why the HD is so high?? I can tell you non abs equipped HD Electra glides are about 13,000 before equipment....
GRB60 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 It doesn't say R1200S. It says R1200s (as in plural).
lkchris Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 The article says they are buying the R1200S. I thought the police model was the RT. No it doesn't say that. It says R1200s, which means more than one R1200. Should you have expected an apostrophe, just know that no word in the English language is made plural by adding apostrophe-s.
upflying Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 MSP only has a "fleet of 24 motorcycles"? Dang, me thinks there are at least 500 in the fleet of the California Highway Patrol.
Albert Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 . . . just know that no word in the English language is made plural by adding apostrophe-s. You mean adding an apostrophe hyphen s won't make it plural?
Jake Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 As grammatically incorect as this is written, I read it as "apostrophe ess". Cool link DR, though I believe at least one officer would benefit from a Ride Smart session, I see a bit of cross-controlling going on the file photo.
dirtrider Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Afternoon Jake I know a couple of those guys & they definitely don't need Ride Smart. He was probably just trying to get a bit more bike lean for the photo.
David13 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I hope so, Bob. California is a much bigger and far more populated state. In addition, in most locations, there is a year round riding season. Whereas there are some long term winters in Michigan that make riding a bit uncomfortable. dc

And the Maize and Blue. dc Yea, where have I seen that color? It seems vaguely familiar.

Ummmm, from grammar book dot com: Exception: Use apostrophes with capital letters and numbers when the meaning would be unclear otherwise.
Fubar Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Any problem figuring out why English is arguably the most difficult language to learn on this spinning little orb? Oi! the rules and exceptions will lead a sane person to the nuthouse. And, as a friend says, "English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over and goes through their pockets for loose grammar."

Ummmm, from grammar book dot com: Exception: Use apostrophes with capital letters and numbers when the meaning would be unclear otherwise. As somebody who writes for a living (although you can't tell at times ), the only way to solve this problem is not by apostrophes, but by not making the model number a noun. Instead, of R1200S or R1200's, it would be best to write this as R1200 bikes. When I worked at Apple, we always had problems with the press writing Macs or Macintoshes, when it was always better to write it out as Mac computers. Same issue here, just 20 years later. Wayne
philbytx Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks for the Linky DR. The RT is clearly the overall winner and, IMHO, that LEO Vision looks more like over-designed road jewellery.
