ahirsch Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Going to show a friend how to check valves and adjust throttle bodies on his 1200 rt. I have been performing the same on my 1100 with ease. Same steps? I have done a 1200 once before and don't remember a big brass screw??? it's been a while since I have wrenched on a 1200. Thanks for your help! Andrew
dirtrider Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Morning Andrew No big brass screws on the 1200 hexhead. In fact NEVER turn ANY screws on the TB's on the 1200 hexheads as that can make them about impossible to get back to correct. You should also check (& correct) the valve adjustment before doing the TB balance. On the 1200 hexhead the idle balance is controlled by the fueling computer so you only need to check the above idle TB balance. To do that without a GS-911 or dealer computer-- first CHECK that BOTH SIDE throttle cables have a bit of slack. Then check the balance at idle. If the idle balance is close (under 5" of H2o) then just run it up to 1500-1800 RPM & check the cross side balance. If the warm engine stabilized idle vacuum is off more than 5" side to side then find out what is wrong (like vacuum leak, or idle stepper not working, or severe coking of the TB's, or valve issues, or other) If you need to make an adjustment make it on the R/H cable adjuster only at the TB (ONLY use the cable adjuster & nothing else). Once balanced then very slightly open the twist grip (very slowly & very/very slightly & make sure BOTH side throttle cams lift of their idle stops at EXACTLY the same time (if they don't you have something wrong)
