OK, the opening ceremony is two days away, and tomorrow is grocery-shopping night. Gimme some ideas for an Olympic dinner.

Cuisine of the host country (England this time)? Fish & chips?

Cuisine of ancient Greece? Modern Greece? Gyros and dolmades?

"World" cuisine?

Friday should be nice weather for grilling. Just sayin'...

It is the London Olympics and the main arena is in East London, so you want the traditional dish of the East-end Pie 'n' Mash with Liquor - Fish and Chips are more of a Northern English dish.

More Likely to be a "Ruby Murray" these days,. Thats curry to our colonial cousins. As indian food is now the nations favourite dish.

Indian Food was clearly the culinary winner when I was living/stationed there, and Chinese was a distant second. I had high hopes for Fish & Chips upon arrival, but the chips always tasted like the fish. I suspect there was a bit of economising with the same fryer doing double duty.

Eels? Is that shrimp? Please pass the sugared popcorn...

Considering all the backlash about our countries olympic attire being made in China, maybe you should support your country and go for KFC or Chic-fil-A; Maine lobster or local Farmer's Market beef and veggies. Just try to spend a lot of money on it so the terrorist don't win.

Boiled eggs and a green salad. Carbs for breakfast.

I was about to suggest London Broil - but then I discovered that it's got pretty much nothing to do with England.

If I do go with something English, maybe Yorkshire pudding ought to be on the menu. Mom used to make that; good stuff.

Honor the 'English School of Cooking' by making your favorite dish without any of your normal seasonings. Allow to cool on a bed of congealed gravy.

Yummmmm.

Simple: BEER. English if you prefer but I'm drinking craft beer from the USA (today).
