Fuel filter replacement

I am getting ready to replace the fuel filter on my 02 R1150RS. I am looking at the kit from Beemer Boneyard that has the O ring for the plate etc. Beemer Boneyard part

The clamps are screw type clamps.

My question is, are these clamps appropriate for clamping the new fuel filter inside the tank, or should I actually go with the crimp type clamps?

They are appropriate and will function well. I just did this job and used a mix of those clamps and the Oetiker clamps. And I used them when I changed QDs.

The one thing I would point out is that you need to take care in positioning the screw-down clamps so that there is no interference with parts of the fuel plate or the side of the tank.

Are you going to change the internal hoses? If you're not thinking of it you really should consider it.

Roger I appreciate the response. Actually, I had not even considered changing out the the internal hoses. Is there a good source of hose that can be used internally, or should I go with BMW supplied hoses? The OEM hoses are pricey, but this is a job I don't want to screw up being cheap!

I'm going to be doing the same job within a few months, and had to order the hoses from BMW, this per Beemer Boneyard recommendation. Boneyard doesn't have them.

I got all my internal hoses from Max BMW online. I'm sure there are other sources but I was remote enough that I needed to be sure to get the right thing first time.

Thanks Chris, I saw that the Boneyard didn't have anything and was the reason I was asking. Could be BMW lines for me as well.

I completely understand that Roger. I did read where Gates Fuel Lines are rated for submersion and they list O'reilly auto parts as a seller. Could be a solution but I'll have to check with O'reilly.

The cost does add up:

Fuel filter $22

O ring kit $7

5/16 internal hose $26

U hose $34

3/16 internal hose $21 (or $42 if you need 2 meters)

Total $105

Then another $100 to $200 if you add a pump and strainer.
