szurszewski Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I've had a second clutch switch (if that's the correct term - I'm referring to the switch at the left grip that allows, when working, you to start the bike "in gear" if you have the clutch lever pulled in) fail, and I figured I'd tear it apart and see if I could fix it instead of spending another $40 (beemerboneyard again does not have one in stock). I suppose my volt meter and I could figure this out, but is the at rest position for the button/switch in or out? I know I could bypass it by twisting the wires together before the switch, but by looking at it, I can't quite tell if pulling the clutch lever pushes the button in (which is my guess) or let's it come out. Thanks in advance - much appreciated. josh
Clive Liddell Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 On mine it was the little spring rusted and broken in half preventing the contact "making" when the clutch lever was pulled in. http://images.nikonians.org/galleries/data/9264/medium/clutch_switch_exploded_d.jpg http://images.nikonians.org/galleries/data/9264/medium/clutch_switch_exploded_3_d.jpg http://images.nikonians.org/galleries/data/9264/medium/clutch_switch_exploded_2_d.jpg
Galactic Greyhound Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 The internal spring went on mine too - goodness knows how long it was like that! Now part of a regular test routine in case the Neutral Switch ever goes! The switch is released when the clutch lever is pulled in which causes the switch to operate and complete a ground circuit for the Starter relay coil.
