MichiganBob Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Hi Everyone, I'm getting ready to replace the clutch on my 02 1150rt this Saturday. How vital is the BMW tool 11 5 640 which locks the clutch housing. I know in the past that I have been able to get by without the BMW special tools on some repairs. Is there an alternative that you have used or fabricated? Better yet, does anyone in southwest michigan have one of these clutch tools that they are willing to lend me for this coming Saturday's big day? Thanks. Bob
dirtrider Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Morning Bob You don't need that flywheel locking tool. You can use anything from a cut down old hockey puck, to a block of wood, to the heel of an old shoe to, just about anything to wedge in between the flywheel & engine case to keep the flywheel from turning while loosening & tightening the bolts. Some even use a bolt through the TDC lock pin hole but personally I don't like that method as that places way too much force on that area.
BobW03 Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 I do not have the locking tool but did buy the alignment tool for the clutch from BeemerBoneyard. I am willing to loan it to you for the cost of shipping both directions. Send me a P.M
