Vicious_Cycler Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Our house was prewired for a Phoenix Gold system. There are sliders in every room, speakers outside, phone-looking jacks everywhere, and a panel in a closet with a gazillion wires in it but no brain. Does anyone have any advice on how all this stuff works? It'd be cool to get it up and running but I'm totally lost. The Phoenix company has failed to respond to any of my email inquiries. Any help would be appreciated.
majrosebud Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Yikes. I think I'd hire a home theatre sound person to finish up the job. I'd assume he'll have to take an ohm meter first and match up the speakers to the wires going into the closet if they are not already labeled. That's not a big deal. You could do that, would help to have another person on the "slider" help identify what cable is being identifed. (when he moves the slider, resistance will change on the ohm meter). Once all the speakers are identified, it is just a matter of buying some type of stereo system to run it all. Hope this helps
Rinkydink Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 You might be able to use a toner to id what wires go where. It would be a lot faster. Have any friends in the telecommunications field? Identfying and tagging them yourself will save you a ton of labor costs. You will also need some kind of impedance matching distribution box to protect your amplifier(s). This is where a professional home entertainment company would be the route to go IMHO. Less guesswork and headaches. Good luck.
