TestPilot Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I tuned in Speed's broadcast of World SBK today and learned that BMW will withdraw their factory team next year, but continue to support the Team Italia satellite team. This looks just like their actions in Formula 1 - they don't win, or win enough, so they pack up and leave.
TestPilot Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Melandri's double win certainly puts a big question mark on BMW's announcement. Their factory press release reads like a spin doctor's thesis. Perhaps we will never know the real reason for their decision, but lately BMW can't seem to stick with any race series for very long.

BMW_Ken Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Aprilia and BMW are the only 2 manufacturers in WSBK this year with "factory" race teams. Honda, Ducati, Kawasaki, and Yamaha just provide factory support to private teams. This is what BMW is planning to do going forward. I read that they will continue with engine development for WSBK program and the Motorrad Italia team will do their own chassis development going forward.
