philbytx Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Ok.....Deb and I are totally stunned. Coming home from shopping and just by our house, we see two young men in camo, wearing black helmets, black combat boots, dressed like soldiers, acting like soldiers, darting in and out of cover. Both were carrying copy AR15's WITH very small orange tips and had on ammo belts. I carefully (and preparedly!!!) pulled up alongside and both Deb and I yelled at them asking them just what the hell are you thinking and don't you watch the news! They were polite and said we are just playing Sir. I said, YOU might know you are playing but what about everyone else on the planet. I told them to get the hell home! We both weren't sure whether to call our local PD and have these two idiots dragged back to their parents. Then again, what idiot parent would let their kids out dressed like that, especially in light of current events. After we got home and we calmed down, we then thought that perhaps the little bastiges deliberately did this just to wind up the local populace! I am completely baffled!
Firefight911 Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Or maybe they were just being kids and playing army.
beemerman2k Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 We both weren't sure whether to call our local PD and have these two idiots dragged back to their parents. Then again, what idiot parent would let their kids out dressed like that, especially in light of current events. Good luck with that. I feel I cannot count on parents exercising good sense these days. On rare occasion, my girls with have an issue with a classmate that I have to take up with the school. More often than not, I am given a story about that kids home life and therefore s/he is a handful in public. To be honest, I was quite disappointed when I saw in the news about that Colorado theater shooting a family that brought their 9 year old son to the midnight showing of that film. First of all, I question the suitability of such an ultra-violent, ultra-sadistic movie for a 9 year old, and second, shouldn't that kid be in bed at midnight? Of course, when I was 9 years old, we went to the drive in theaters to see WW2 and Old Western movies. Sure, there was violence, but somehow it seemed different to me than what I see today. Anyhow, I'm getting old, I'm from a different era, and all that.
Jake Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 To be honest, I was quite disappointed when I saw in the news about that Colorado theater shooting a family that brought their 9 year old son to the midnight showing of that film. That was mixed into my reaction as well. I had an argument with my 15 year-old daughter about her wanting to go to the midnight showing that night. I repeated my mantra to her "Nothing good happens after midnight" and tried to rationally explain why I ruled against her going. It wasn't pretty, and adults can sympathize with the futility of explaining the benefits of good judgement to a teenager. Well, when the news broke the next day, you can bet we revisited the topic. I tried to stay away from the pontificating, and may not be able to deter her from asking to stay out late tonight (summertime blues), but I can only hope that she reflects on these issues when she matures and finds herself facing the same issues with my grand-kids, whom I shall endeavor to spoil rotten. I see a lot of parents simply give up. Society today is a worthy and tireless adversary.
Quinn Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 You could just wait and shoot them when they got on your lawn. That'll teach them. -----
philbytx Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Phil, They were about 5'10"and well built. However, it wasn't until we got closer I saw they were about 15/16 years old!
MT Wallet Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Some kids just don't see the bigger picture beyond themselves so they just don't have adult sensitivity to the tragedy in Aurora. This could end tragically for them.
tallman Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 And often does. Wonder where the $$$ came from for their gear?
Quinn Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I'm assuming that they were geared up and practicing for a paintball match. Kids and adults can get real involved playing paintball and pretending it's soldiering. -----
