aestivator Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Hi all, Apropos of nothing my 06 rt suddenly stopped firing on the rh side. There is a spark all round. I have noticed a clicking in the cable splitter and when I manually pull the cable on the rh side nothing happens but does work properly on left. Any clues? Thanks, John
dirtrider Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Morning John We need more information on when your problem started & how you KNOW & verified the R/H side isn't firing. A "quick check" for even TB cable adjustment is by having someone slowly twist the twist grip then reach in & see if BOTH TB's cams are lifting off their stops at the exact time. If not you have a problem. Just pulling on the cables shows you nothing as the L/H side has the TPS (throttle position sensor) so when you pull on the L/H side cable it uses the TPS signal to add fuel to the air you let in when pulling the on the cable. There is NO TPS on the R/H side so when you pull on that side cable it ONLY lets air in with no added fuel to go with it. That means no firing on the R/H side if ONLY pulling on the R/H side cable. I'm not sure what you are noticing clicking wise in the bowden box but if your bike has cruise control that extra pulley inside the bowden box floats so acts like it is loose. On the 1200 hexhead-- if you start messing with pulling on the cables coming out of the bowden box you can de-rail the cruise control cable inside the bowden box. If that happens you will have to take the box cover off & re-install the cable on the cam pulley & spring. (a big pain is the a$$).
aestivator Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 Thanks for that. I first noticed it on arriving home from work on Thursday evening in an irregular tick over. Rode it in on Friday, seemed ok but I thought the throttle seemed a little stiff, running ok though. Went to fire it up to ride home and it struggled to start and when it did was very lumpy at low revs. Seemed to run much smoother the more you throttle I gave it. Stripped it down today and checked for spark, ok all round. Replaced a cracked coil on Lh lower and put new plugs in all round. Will start and run but very lumpy, Lh exhaust getting hot, rh not at all. Checked injector and it is delivering gas. The throttle does not feel right somehow. John
dirtrider Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Afternoon John Make sure your R/H throttle cable is FULLY seated in the furrel at the TB. Then verify BOTH side throttle cams are pulling off their stops at the very same time. It sounds almost like your R/H throttle cable is either too tight or the cable outer sheath is caught on the air cleaner inlet, or the throttle cable is out of the furrel & sitting on the upper edge of the furrel.
aestivator Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 I ended up taking into Mike at Cardiff Motorrad. The RH side throttle body has seized. Common on the RT apparently. John
TheoM Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 {snip}...Common on the RT apparently...{snip} Oh, really??? I'd be interested in data to back up that claim. Perhaps I've not been keeping up with things well enough, but this is the first time I've heard of that. Please let us know more...
