My wife's now a rider

Some of you got to meet my wife during the RideSmart class last fall. She rode around 2up with me in the mountains after the class and we had a great time. Shortly after that, she started talking about how she was tired of looking at the back of my helmet and making noises about wanting to figure out if she could learn how to ride.

I got her in touch with the person that was my instructor and they had a 2 hour 1 on 1 session prior to booking the MSF class. She came home from that 2 hour class simply beaming. A week later, she was in the class and had already been spending every night online looking for a bike.

She passed the class, of course, and already had the gear since she'd been riding pillion with me for a while, so all we had to do was find her a bike. We picked up a Vulcan 500 and she rode that around the neighborhood with me every evening after work for 2-3 weeks before deciding she was ready to hit the road.

I had her out in the garage changing the engine oil and filter, fork oil, lubing the chain, changing the plugs, putting in a new battery, and all sorts of other wrench type things. Things I'd never have expected her to do. She was so happy to have a bike and just as happy to take a part in maintaining it.

Just about 6 weeks later we decided that 500cc's was a great learner, but it was time to upgrade (we kind of expected that going in). We traded that in, and bought a Boulevard C50 (~800cc).

She's since removed the windshield and replaced the grips. We've also decided we don't like those bags, so those have to go.

She's already talking about what bike she wants to buy next year! This girl's been bitten by the bug bad! I think I'm going to have my hands full (as if I didn't already)!

So far she's loving the 'low to the ground' cruisers since she's only 5'2", but maybe someday I'll find a BMW that she likes :).

Bob,

RidingSmart was just over 3 months ago... It was end of March.

She's just gotten that excited about riding to make it seem like longer. I'm happy for both of you!

That's great! The Boulevard is a fun bike!

Damn, you're right. It just seems so long ago since so much has happened. I need to get back out on the mountains and slow life down more often.

I love the way she fell in love with riding. I'm quite sure she'll make a great one, as there is hardly any better training than riding pillion. It's an advantage that women, in general, enjoy.

Awesome Bob!

My wife went out and learned to ride after attending one of the BRR events with me. Best wishes for many happy riding days together.

You know Bob, it's about that time...

Congratulations to your wife. I was in her place a while back. Once I got my endorsement I was hooked! This is my 4th season riding and we are having a blast together on our almost matching 2004 RTs.

It is interesting to see non-riding folks' reaction when I bring up the topic of what we did over the weekend etc. "I just can't see you doing that!", "Really, do you where leather?", "Ever go the Sturgis?". My siblings can only envision the "loud Harley, hard drinking" style of riding since that is what they see around them.

Have fun and ride safely,

Yeah, we just got that same statement last week about Sturgis and leather.

Bob, you're lucky she wants to ride. My wife likes the back of my helmet for some reason and doesn't want to change the view :(
