Triangle Warning Light = RED

Yesterday on my commute home my triangle warning light came on (solid red). There were no other indicators on the dash, oil temperature was normal. It stayed on the rest of the way home (approx 5 miles). Bike ran fine with no noticeable changes in anything.

This morning I rode in (no warning light) with nothing out of the ordinary. The only anomaly yesterday was it was hot. Temperatures were around 100F all the way home. That's not all that unusual this summer and I wasn't stuck in any traffic for any unreasonable amount of time (I've had much worse days). The owners manual has no description for a condition where the light's red and no other indicators are on. Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

Morning Al

A solid on RED general warning light usually points to a battery charging condition but that usually also put a little outline of a battery in the lower display.

Unless you look closely that lower display is pretty faint & difficult to see.

If you for sure had nothing showing on your display but still had a solid always on red general light then I really don't know what to tell you.

I think your motorcycle caught you daydreaming about

another ride so it let you know how it felt 'bout that.

;)

Hope it is nothing to be concerned with.

Thanks DR. It's possible I could have missed that since the LED display is dim after sitting in the sun all day. The battery's only about a year old but I suppose anything's possible.

I think the red triangle with the little battery symbol is also on when the system is not charging for whatever reason, not necessarily meaning a bad battery. I get it when I start up until I rev the motor a bit. So it could be a slipping alternator belt, a bad alternator, or a bad connection in the wiring, may be heat related. The good/bad thing is that it self-corrected.

Agreed. I replaced the belt with around 36k miles and now have around 50k. If it's a real issue I certainly hope it's a $20 belt and not an $800 alternator!
