I have noticed R1150RTs listed for sale as 2005. I had thought that 2005 was only the 1200, obviously I am wrong. (again!!) So at what point did the new 1200 arrive? Does the 2005 1150 have the same spline issues as the other 1150s? I think the 1150s are beautiful, but a little scary. Had a girlfriend like that....

In 2005 they made both. The 2005 R1150RT is often considered the best R1150RT. Splines issues are generally attributed to earlier models.

Don't quote me, but I was told that the later 04's were sold as 05's. I bought an 04 that was listed as an 05. Mine was built in August of 04. From everything that I have read, the 04 and 05 are exactly the same. There are plenty of low mileage ones out there for $8K-ish.

There is a 06 r1150rtp on the Phoenix craigslist. In the listing it shows the manufacture date as 12/05. That is the first I have heard that the 1150rt was made as an 06 model.

An '04 can't be passed off as an '05. The tenth digit of the VIN denotes model year. (4=2004 and 5=2005)

'05 was an unusual year for BMW.

The '03/'04 GT was continued for a year, as an '05, very limited, and different color (silver) than the other GT's.

The R 1150 RT continued production even as the 1200's debuted.

I would think the only dif between the '05 models and previous year is date of manufacture.

But, I think I remember a limited color run in '05 RT's too...

hmmmm

To further add to the model/year confusion...I believe '06 R1150RT's were available in the Authority version.... (police).

I had a grey 05 R1150RT. Great bike. I was told that there were about 250 of them with official '05 US VINs.
