Gerbing Heated Pant Liner Review

In a nutshell:

The Gerbing Heated Pant Liner does more than heat your lower body. It's effective at preventing the cold and damp from working their craft on your joints and muscles. The feeling of warmth over your hip joints and knees, not to mention outside of thighs and shins, feels extremely soothing. Warm joints are happy joints. smirk.gif

Once you taste it, you're reluctant to go back to that cold feeling. It's very much a question of added comfort. thumbsup.gif

Bruno, Do you use one controller for both the jacket and pants or two separate controllers? I have a

Gerbings jacket and would like to know more about the pants. How are the pants for sizing? What do you wear under and over them? Thanks!

Bruno, Do you use one controller for both the jacket and pants or two separate controllers?

One controller for jacket liner and pants liner. If you intend to wear Gerbing gloves, you have two options.

Generally, you need a higher setting on the gloves than on the jacket or pant liners. This is because the gloves are more exposed to the cold and there is comparatively less insulation on the gloves than the jacket liner = more heat loss. In addition, the jacket liner or pants are worn under your outer gear, providing even more insualation.

So the two options are:

1) to either run the controller on the jacket and pant liners and plug the gloves direct to the separate glove harness as opposed to plugging them to the jacket liner sleeves. I don't mind this since my glove harness is installed in my riding jacket ie no messing or fumbling with wires required. I mention this in my glove review. Using this method, you can use a dual controller. One wire connected to jacket/pants, the other to gloves. You'll have independent control.

This method allows you to plug the gloves in the jacket liner with same controller or plugged in harness with direct connection or one side of dual controller.

2) You can also ask Gerbing to wire your jacket liner (when you order it) so that gloves are separate. This will allow you to use the glove connectors that come on the jacket liner sleeves and plug into the dual controller. Using this method, the dual controller still provides separate control for jacket/pants and gloves.

BUT, the glove connectors on the sleeve will no longer be powered by the jacket liner. You will always need a separate power source for them. Ie a dual controller.

Hope that's not too confusing. eek.gif

I have a Gerbings jacket and would like to know more about the pants. How are the pants for sizing?

Gerbing has a sizing method that seems unique to them. Best is that you go to their website and check out their sizing guidelines. If you take your measurements according to the guidelines and e-mail them, they will get back to you.

What do you wear under and over them?

The pant liners are meant to be worn under normal riding pants.

The pant liners are very effective at stopping wind and humidity. Also good at keeping warmth. I had mine sized so that I wear a thin wicking long-john type of undergarment. That's plenty for me. But you could also have them sized so you can wear a normal pair of pants or jeans. With the hip to ankle zip, putting them on and taking them off is easy.

Hope that helps,
