ElevenFifty
Buddy and I are hightailing it to LA where we will meet our spouses and begin a leisurely west coast tour. We will not push too hard ... 800 - 1000 mile days with motel stops. Mapsource says the routes are only 9 miles different and time is comparable. I appreciate your opinions I40 from Chattanooga to LA or I20/I10 ... the Texas route. ????? Link to comment
ltljohn
Why not do both, I40 from Chattanooga to LA and I10/I20 back? Link to comment
Foot
I-40 don't go thru Chattanooga. You gotta take I-24 from Chat to Nashville to catch I-40. I would think that the time of year would dictate which route. I-10 is the warmer route. Alan Link to comment
Whip
If ya do the Tx route you are welcome to stay with us. We live 2 miles off I-10 on the western edge of San Antonio. L and L Link to comment
randy
mapsource may "show" the same, but I am guessing I-20 and I-10 will be more than a few hours quicker. Just saying you may find higher "real speeds" on the southern route :-) Link to comment
BerndM
This is what Mapsource says, using I-20 to I-10 Atlanta to Los Angeles 2220 mi 1 day 9:19:00 280° true Link to comment
bdspler
I 20 to Birmingham up I-65 two exits! go west to first light! turn right for 3 miles and that puts you on to I-22 to Memphis TN.then on I 40! I like I -40 better than I-10. I have made the trip 4 times! bd P.S. Looks like the 4th exit on I-65 north! then go left to the west 1/4 mile to first light! then right! In Memphis turn west in Olive Branch!go 7 miles to I - 55 north to get I-40 the fastest! A Camel Bac is a Must in June out west! Its A LONNG desert! I lay mine on the tank! and drink LOTS of water. Gatorade at the gas stops! Link to comment
ashleybiker
I have recently run the I20/I10 route (Carolina to Arizona) twice in the past six months and preferred this to previous years runs on I40. While each road provides different views and construction/repair zone variation, I found the I20/I10 route less congested, a bit better regarding road surface and with less construction/repair zones along the route. Also, the probability of encountering snow/ice this time of year seems less likely on I20/10 than along the I40 route--which was another reason for my choice. Obviously, the weather in June is quite different and can be very hot and/or stormy... but you know how that can go-- From Wilmington NC to Phoenix AZ -- 1st night near Jackson MS on I20, 2nd night Van Horn TX on I10.
