2004 BMW R1150RT Replacement Battery

Hi, help

I just ordered a replacement GEL battery for my bike online, the supply have sent an alternative "Acid" filled [MF ES18-12V Sealed] unit, as they tell me the one I ordered is currently out of stock!!

Can the acid filled battery be used or is there a reason why BMW use GEL battery? :S

Make sure you fit the vent pipe - but there is no problem using it. BMW used flooded cell batteries on the RT up until at least 2002 and they did not change the charging system when they switched to Gel.

The MF ES18-12V should retail for £55 to £60, so be sure you were not overcharged (no pun intended).

I would not fit a Gel anyway - AGM is the way to go. I buy from Tayna - good prices and service.

Hi Pickersgill1.

I personally would thank your supplier very much, but say no thanks to the flooded cell bettery.

Hunt out the AGM battery. Well worth the hassle.

The Acid battery is a "sealed" unit, just took the battery out of the plastic bag, this unit has no vent tube or anwhere to fit one as it is tollay sealed?

£59.99 including delivery, so "OVERCHARGED" for possibly inferior product, should have been Ebay item no. 190602428843

You have a gel battery, so you are good to go. These come with some plastic recipients that have some kind of liquid, you port that in the battery and then seal the caps. It then solidifies and voila!
