NeilCW
I posted my 1150RT on craigslist a few days ago and I keep getting e-mails about how I am overpriced because the bluebook value is much lower and how can I ask so much, very annoying. What's up with the Nada book? Link to comment
Paul Mihalka
Best thing you can do is check back here on bmwst, on Cycletrader, ibmwr.org, BMWMOA, and see what others are asking for somewhat similar bikes. Link to comment
litigator
Go to Motorcycle Consumer News for a realistic number. Link to comment

I did and I see only a few 1150RTs for sale here on the west coast. After seeing all the RTP's for sale, I thought I was about what I should be asking for my bike. No big deal, just got a R1200 C Phoenix and I can keep the RT as I like them both. Link to comment
litigator
What year is your RT? I'll look it up in MCN if you wish. I save the magazines. Link to comment
TEWKS
Didn't look anywhere, just for fun I'll say $5,800.00 Pat Link to comment
Patallaire
Value is what a willing buyer is willing to pay a willing seller. Period. Many people on this board overprice their toys based on some posted metric,I have seen board members price over retail with no dealer support after the sale, however if they can state the value clearly, ie: low miles, extras, only ridden on Sundays to Church at under 30mph, etc. they may get the price they are asking. As a rule, you can't be so far over the metric that it is crazy, there is competition, sometimes the metric is a trade -in value or wholesale that they compare to, so you need to know what metric they are comparing your price to. BMW's, Ducati's and most bikes that are not of the Harley brand fall like rocks in value, except to those of us who ride them. You need to know that going in and enjoy it for all that it is and has been to you then place your value on it accordingly. Link to comment
Tom W
New member and just bought my first BMW a '04 R1150RT in December. NADA states the value for each model year in excellent condition as a reference. I calculated my expenses to bring the bike I was considering to excellent condition and made an offer accordingly. Some sellers accepted my logic and others thought their bikes were worth more than my offer. Hang in there, you'll find the right buyer as the northern riding season gets closer. Link to comment
upflying
Here is the OP's ad, asking $7900. Remus, 21,000 miles and Sargent seating. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mcy/2850456524.html Link to comment
litigator
I'll look up MCN when I go home, but the 2002 is certainly under $5,000. Link to comment
litigator
As an aside,I paid $8,000 for my 2002 in 2005 with about 25K miles on it. Link to comment
Dan5620
I'll look up MCN when I go home, but the 2002 is certainly under $5,000. Per MCN, March '12 edition, the '03 model is listed at $6,035.00, that's with ABS They do not show prices for '02 and older models Link to comment
CoarsegoldKid
asking $7900. Remus, 21,000 miles and Sargent seating. I'd say that was high. Link to comment
NeilCW
I had my asking price a little high as I am not firm on it. But I paid $7,400 a year ago and added the new windshield and sargent seats. Around here clean low milage RT's are hard to find with the exception of bikes with high miage or RTP, which are a dime a dozen. Mine is very clean with all dealer service records and all receipts since it was new, plus it is the best color I had a hard time finding one last year, had to travel half way across the state to buy this one. If it doesn't sell for a decent price I'll just keep it along with my new R1200C Phoenix, both great bikes Link to comment
BerndM
Kelley Blue Book says $5980 NADA says from $3835 to $4630 I've always found KBB to be too high and NADA to be too low. But the high NADA figure seems closest to reality. Link to comment
Quinn
The extras only add to the value if the buyer wants them. The exhaust, and low seat would add nothing for me. A radio would subtract value to me. Also buying used I like to have a couple of thousand held back from my maximum spendable so I won't get too upset if hit with a big repair soon after buying. ----- Link to comment
upflying
But I paid $7,400 a year ago Doesn't matter what you paid. Vehicles are not investments that appreciate in value. What you paid may have been too much. Farkles like seats, windshield and exhaust add nothing to value. Loud exhaust may decrease value on a BMW. They are for you, not the next owner. IIRC, the 2002 RT has the highest spline failure rate. The flood of cheap RT-P's on the market are bringing prices of RT's down. Link to comment
NeilCW
Oh well, I guess everyone has an opinion, many differ. In my short experience in BMW's, I found that when I bought it last year, very few were available in the condition I wanted, and looking at ads now it is the same, very few in excellant condition with lower miles. I just bought a 2001 R1200C Phoenix Chromehead with 10K miles and paid $8,000.00 and had to ship it here from Texas, but the blue books all say it is worth less than $5K. I've been looking for 6 months and lost many thinking they were overpriced. I was wrong, they kept getting bought while I kept looking for "the great deal" My original point was that I believed the blue book values are wrong on BMW's, and I still believe that. Penforhire
I believe it'll sell close to, but below, $6K, just like the guides suggest. You're too close to much newer RT prices and your add-ons only offset your wear-and-tear. But if you can find a buyer at your price, more power to you. Link to comment

litigator
This is a purchase another board memeber just made. Specs: 2002 BMW R1150RT, ABS, Heated Grips, 3-piece luggage, cylinder guards. 17,2XX miles, service records, new Avon tires. No radio. Perfect condition except for a repaired scuff on the right rear of the tail light and the right mirror housing. Looked like something may have scraped against it as there was no evidence that it had been dropped. Luggage doesn't seem to have ever been used. Runs excellent. Clean title. $6299. Link to comment
tallman
NADA values reflect true sales/trade ins. One may not like those figures. But, go to any dealership and see what your bike is worth as a trade or if they're willing to buy it. We sold an '02 w/Motolights, custom saddle/top case, new rubber, and 49,000 miles for $5,000 a year ago. The '02 version may have the grabby brakes, may have higher incidence of spline failures. Pass. Too much $$ for the bike. You asked. Best wishes and good luck. For $7-8k a nice '04 is out there. There's an '04 in Atlanta w/15,000 miles and all bags, asking $7250. Regional differences apply. Link to comment
NeilCW
already got an offer yesterday afternoon for $6,900.00 and I think he will go higher, another person is coming over today to look at the bike so I guess I was not all the wrong, eh? Link to comment
bayoubengal
I just sold a nice but high mileage SUV that I was unsure how to price. I decided to start high and lower it weekly over a 2 month period until I hit my bottom line. I sold it in less an a week. You don't ask you don't get, but be flexible. Link to comment

NeilCW
Just curious Neil, has the bike sold? Yes I did, for $7,600.00, which is a fair price IMHO. I must say I am dissapointed that some people on this forum would suggest our bikes have depreciated when in fact they are in demand when well loved and cared for, like my bike is. The R1150RT is probably the best modern BMW ever produced! Link to comment
