BULLman
It won't read it. Asks for me to put in a CD/DVD into drive. I will burn a CD. Weird thing is that on my old computer it will burn work. Old computer is Vista 1st Gen Duo Core Toshiba New computer is a Windows 7, V-5 chip Leneovo V570 I think. Bought the new computer to edit videos from my contourroam video camera. Edits them fine, but will not burn the DVDS!!!! I had to load the file to a 8gb usb memeory card and downloaded it to the old computer. I don't want to do that everytime. The Nerd Herd at Best Buy was all but useless. Computer is a week old - at the point of just returning it. HELP Link to comment
Groanup
I'm no expert, but last time I had a problem like that I went to the drive manufacturer's website and downloaded the latest driver. Worked fine after that. Just an idea. Link to comment
Danny caddyshack Noonan
I had a similar problem long time ago. IIRC it had something to do with formatting the blank first via the software. Link to comment
BULLman
I did check and the driver was the most recent. Link to comment
Linz
One of my Mac Pro's does this as well. I have to use +R discs for it to burn successfully. You could try to use +R discs. Linz Link to comment
BULLman
Thanks, I thought of that, too. Not sure why though they can't make a burner that can use either I hate computers Link to comment
Glenn Reed
Hey now, if computers just did what people wanted without any exception, I'd have to find a real job! Too old for that now, that's for sure... Link to comment
DavidEBSmith
Try a different brand of blank DVD. Blank DVDs have an internal media code (manufacturer/speed/capabilities) and the firmware in the DVD drive sometimes won't recognize a particular code and won't know what to do with the disk. If you try different media and it still doesn't work, it starts pointing to a problem with the DVD drive itself. Link to comment
BerndM
Thanks, I thought of that, too. Not sure why though they can't make a burner that can use either I hate computers They do! I can't remember when the last burner I had couldn't handle ANY CD/DVD R/RW +/- media I put in it (except BluRay) Link to comment
BULLman
Thanks for all the replies. Called the Tech Hot Line. After inserting the Blank DVD and having the computer not recognize it - they gave me a case number so I can eventually get a new drive. Went ahead and swapped out for a new unit. Hopefully, this one will be the charm. Any guesses on what I'll do first I know Lenevo was part of the IBM Thinkpad computers - anyone have anything the good or bad to about this brand???? This is the first computer (out of a lot) that I've had to swap out. Hopefully I was just due Link to comment
BULLman
Got the new computer and re-starting the loading process. You guessed it, first thing I did was test the DVD burner... it worked Link to comment
