Bummer

So my new Sargent seat finally arrives today... I take it to the garage, carefully unpack it (hate cleaning up those stupid packing peanuts) and gleefully set it in place and snap it on...

.... Only to find it barely fits properly. It's a bit shorter than the stock seat so there's now a gap at the back and the front edges just barely reach the rubber mounting cushions.

Bummed. Gonna mail it back this weekend and start my quest for a new seat again.

:P

That sucks.

I have a loaner sargent on the GS that I am test driving and not entirely sure how I feel about it. I know how disappointing that can be. Good luck with your search.

Thanks Jethro!

I had a Sargent on my VFR that I loved loved LOVED! And the seat fits my a$$ perfectly... It just doesn't fit the bike well. :-)

I don't know if your still after a Sargent seat, but I have a Bill Mayer saddle on my R1200R.

It fits the bike perfectly and I'm very comfortable sitting on it.

Shannon-- sorry for your troubles. Last month I bought a Sargent for my Honda. The seat changed the riding position a great deal. It created pain that was not there before. Sold it 5 days later.

You might give Spencer seats a look. He takes your stock seat and modifies it. Adds new foam. The difference is amazing. And he charges $75. Good value. Good luck with your search..

I had a Sargent on my R1100S. Nice looking, Felt good, did not fit the bike properly and an owner who had it would not be able to look at the bike without seeing the poor fit.

Motorcycle seats are not high tech devices. There are good, even great seat builders in every town. They are easy to find... just go to the local custom Harley shop and ask who does their seats.

Go to the shop they recommend and talk about the job with the guy. Mention different foam densities. If he does not know about them and their uses, move along to the next guy.

Rick Mayer has terrible customer service.

If you go with him, I hope he gets it right the first time.

Got a Sargent low for my 97 RT. Nice. Got a Sargent for my 06 F650GS single: Probably the best overall seat I have ever experienced. Got a Sargent for my 11 F650Gs twin: Fits well but does not fit my butt well.

I am going to try Russell next. Either the regular or probably the sport.

My history with aftermarket seats.

Corbin R1100RS loved the seat, fit the bike kind of funky.

Sargent R1150RT loved the seat, fit the bike perfectly.

Rick Mayer R12RT loved the seat, stock pan. Rick was ok to deal with.

Russell K16GT think it's going to be great long haul seat, short around town rides not so much. Duh! :/

Not helpful I know but good luck with getting it right.

Pat, the bike originally came with a Corbin... Hated it so much I sold it and bought a stock seat!! Definitely would have liked the Sargent to have fit the bike as well as it fits my butt... But oh well!

I tried Spencer then wound up with a Sargent. Spencer had very good customer service. I'm surprised Sargent wont re-do your seat since they're known for great customer service too.

I'd suggest you take a picture of your bike seat on the bike and send it to Sargent showing them the fit and commenting on the comfort or lack thereof and see what they will do for you. I've always heard good things about them. I have one on my R1100RT and it looks and feels good.

Shannon, call Paul at Sargent's and explain your dislike. He might be able to do something about it. He has worked with me on two other seats, and now again on my RT seat. Customer service is excellent! Maybe schedule a weekend trip down there and let them look at your issue.

Ditto. Love my Bill (Rocky) Mayer seat. Saw too much stuff on the boards about his brother Rick's customer service issues. When Bill told me my slot in the schedule was open I shipped the seat to him & it was back on the bike in 10 days - 8 of which were occupied by UPS. He got it on a Tuesday, one of his guys (Aaron?) called me that morning to confirm details and it was back on the UPS truck on Wed all ready for my butt

Guys, I didn't buy the seat directly from Sargent, so I don't think that've got any obligation to fix this situation. And my current seat is stock.

But thanks for the suggestions :-)

Had a Sargeant on both my R1150RT and my S1000RR. Both comfortable, both fit well. Hope you get yours replaced.

Not getting a Sargeant for my new-to-me K12S because the stock seat works well for me.

I've had 2 Sargents. The one on my 99 RT was built on my stock seat pan. When they started making their own pans, there were complaints about fitting problems for a while. The one on my GS is a big pain to snap on, but fits well when it's finally right.

I had a sergeant on my r1200rt and it does not fit in the high position and the grommets split. I just got my Rick Mayer seat and he did a awesome job. Answered all my phone calls and e-mails. Seat fits great. Comfy as hell!!

-1, Had Spencer do the seat on my 07 RT. The results were probably OK considering the price but the results were hardly amazing! I was still in pain after an hour. After trying an Airhawk cushion (probably the most "bang for the buck"), a Sargent, and finaly, a Bill Mayer, I finally got decent comfort.

Shannon, have you seen this disclaimer below on Sargent's website, re. the R1100RS's seat? If you try to order the seat directly from Sargent, it will ask you for the mfgr. date of your bike. Undoubtedly this is the problem.

"IMPORTANT! Technical Seat Specification: Early and late model R1100S motorcycles have slightly different rear frames. In order for the World Sport Seat to fit properly, you will need to identify the exact manufacture date of your motorcycle.

For additional reference photos, click HERE."

Yes, I saw the disclaimer... And I ordered the proper seat for my model year. It simply doesn't set right. But thanks.
