OldBMWMaster
I have an old Garmin 276C. It was last updated in 2009 and it can no longer be updated. Ted on the BMWMOA forum suggested the Harley GPS site. I tried it. Fantastic. No conversions, no extra mapping concerns; everything goes into my GPS seamlessly. http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/ridePlanner.jsp?locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US For all the others out there who like it easy, try it; you will like it. Firenailer
I have an older garmin I was planning to take on a spring trip. I'm going to have to play with this a little more as it wasn't so seemless for me! Link to comment

I'm going to have to play with this a little more as it wasn't so seemless for me! That seems to be the situation with GPS in general. I attended a GPS workshop on Sunday and we all had various problems, regardless of the model we were using. I am glad I found something that works for my unit. Link to comment
4wheeldog
Thanks for posting this. I am in the market for a new GPS......I have a TomTom that is not recognized by Windows 7 for updates. Reminds me to start shopping. I do like the way the HD site allows the addition of waypoints, and the options to get off the slab. Link to comment
marcopolo
What am I missing? What does this do that one can't do on Mapsource, or now Basecamp (PC, or Mac version)? Link to comment
OldBMWMaster
What am I missing? What does this do that one can't do on Mapsource, or now Basecamp (PC, or Mac version)? For some reason, my old Garmin does not like either of those and will sometimes either not give me a good download or connection. I have no idea what the problems are; I only know I do not have those problems with the HD site. I took my device to a GPS workshop and it acted up there. None of our resident "gurus" could figure it out either. Link to comment
dirtrider
What am I missing? What does this do that one can't do on Mapsource, or now Basecamp (PC, or Mac version)? Morning Mark You are missing nothing as far as I can tell. In fact it looks like the Harley version has limitations from what the latest version of MapSource or Base Camp offers as far as I can tell. From a quick look it doesn't look like it does tracks for back roads, or missing roads, or for use across multiple GPS units using different map sets but needing the same EXACT routing. The Harley version might help a bit if you have access to a computer without MapSource or Base Camp while on the road but you still would need a way to connect your GPS to the computer. marcopolo
Thanks. I recently replaced my 276C with a Garmin Montana and have been using Basecamp for Mac for about 18 months vs. Mapsource. Even though, with an RT, I don't ride offroad, I've started playing with tracks in addition to routes. You can easily create a track from a route (simply right clicking on it in Basecamp). With the Montana, I can be navigating a route while simultaneously having the track (of that same route) displayed on the GPS screen. This gives me an easy way to see if, for whatever reason, the GPS route deviates from the route I created on my computer. While the original route might change on the GPS, the track won't. The Montana has the capacity to store lots of routes (200) and tracks (200, with up to 10,000 track points). As for the HD ride planner, if it works for some folks, more power to them. Stan Walker
I have an old Garmin 276C. It was last updated in 2009 and it can no longer be updated. I don't think I understand your comment. You can buy City Navigator® North America NT maps which are claimed to be supported by the 276C. The latest edition is from May 2011. I wonder if there will be a May 2012 edition soon? Could you explain your comment? I also have a 276C and really like it.... Stan Link to comment
OldBMWMaster
Explanation...I AM CHEAP. That suggestion was made at the GPS workshop; I laughed at the idea I should spend as much for a piece of software as I would spend for a new unit. This works for me and is FREE.
