DiggerJim
Check out the link for the 2012 Tour of Honor. It's a self-paced rally running from April 1 thru October 31. This year there are 25 states with 135 memorials to visit. You can ride a state or multiple states (or in the case of New England it's all 6 states 'cause we pack our riding into less physical space). There are also a couple of special rides within the ride - a 4 Corners and a Sea to Sea ride also with trophies and other swag. It's been included as one of the four theme rides in the AMA Grand Tour series this year and the Iron Butt Association has two special Saddlesore rides - the Tour of Honor Saddlesore and the Tour of Honor In-state Saddlesore. A portion of the registration fees goes to support the Wounded Warriors Project. As the New England Sponsor (cool title for "ride doobie" who was responsible for finding sites) I can tell you that there are memorials at least in New England you've likely never seen before and some riding to get there that will be the best in the northeast. Ones that were erected before this was a country and ones that have just been dedicated. They're not just war memorials either - you'll find an interesting set of monuments and memorials dedicated to regular folks who have helped make this country what it is along with lots of suggestions for what else to see/do while you're out riding. So, go register & ride - only 47 days before the start. It's a great way to see the country or even just a part. For those of us freezing our niblets off it can't come soon enough - serious cabin fever occurring here Link to comment
