skinny_tom (aka boney)
Going to go see the Indianapolis 500. I know the hotels are filling up quickly. Anyone wanna provide some advice on parts of town to stay? Good areas/bad areas? Never been there before. Link to comment
majrosebud
I've got several friends who have gone and they had a blast. I use Trip Advisor on the net to find unbiased reviews of the place. Hope you post some pics!! Link to comment
bmw_rider
Take your tent. The parking areas are available to camp in as well as park. Been a few years, so I wouldn't quote you a price, but I recall them being negotiable. All they ask is that race day, you pack up your tent before going to the track so they get their parking spot to use. There are portjohns throughout, cooking on campstove or plenty of vendors. I was up on the Northeast Corner of the track. No problems or issues at all. Pretty open environment as long as you aren't causing trouble. ( Translate -open beer, open liquor, half naked people of both sexes....) Link to comment

upflying
If it were me, I'd stay somewhere 100 miles away and then drive to Indy. Hotels local to Indy500 will already be booked for thousands per nite. Link to comment
Firefight911
Jealous envy!!!! I could be staying in a porta potty and it would be fine with me knowing I was going to the Indy 500!!! Bucket List item for me still!! Link to comment
randy
Lake Haven just 15 minutes from the track. they do not raise prices, for tent camping I think 25.00 per night, for camper I think 45.00 per night. I have stayed there for 4 years attending Indy GP and always had a great time with easy travel. Link to comment
hANNAbONE
...i nOW live 89 miles from the front door of the track. Perhaps I could talk my affectionate other into going there with me. hmmmm....... Link to comment
skinny_tom (aka boney)
Well now, considering I live approximately 2,227 miles from the track I'm pretty sure that we're going to fly. That would eliminate camping equipment, an RV, and possibly even a car. Anyone care to help out with hotel information? All we really need is a clean bed to sleep in and a hot shower. Ability to catch some sort of shuttle or whatnot to the track is bonus. My buddy says the seat are good... Maybe right at the end of turn 4? Link to comment
Mike
If you can get any hotel in the Indy area for a reasonable price, book it now. Truly, your best bet is to start looking an hour or more out from Indy. If you can find a recently opened hotel, one that no one knows about yet, you might luck out, but the city is absolutely sold out far in advance every year. Link to comment
dba
If it were me, I'd stay somewhere 100 miles away and then drive to Indy. Hotels local to Indy500 will already be booked for thousands per nite. That's what I'm doing for the US Formula One Grand Prix in Austin this November. Once the date was confirmed, $75 Hampton Inn rooms were going for $800. I booked my flight, room and rental car to San Antonio and will drive to Austin for the race. Link to comment
