Run-N-Lites installation

I just purchased Run-N-Lites for my '03 R1150 RT to give myself a little more needed visibility. I got them yesterday, and they look relatively simple to install. The written instructions are a little challenging to me. Has anyone installed these, or know of a tutorial that has some accompanying pictures that would aid in the installation? Thanks in advance.

I've had them on my RS for many years. The installation of the sockets is pretty straightforward. As I recall for wiring the instructions tell you to tap power off of the parking lamp for the always lit bulb element and the other bulb element is powered same as the original.

The company that sells them is pretty helpful and Klaus there can probably walk you through it easily.

Dan, I have an '03 R 1150 RT, and I got the Run-n-Lites for front and rear. The front is the Type 12 kit and the rear is the Type 13.

Frank - this is funny. I have been wanting to make myself this kind of system, I did not know it already exists. Also, I read about these but never went into detail to actually check the product.

So, what you know have is 4x21W bulbs, in the 4 corners of the bike. In each corner, there is 1 bulb with one filament of 21W, for signaling turns.

What your products do is replace the bulb you have with an brake/parking light bulb that has 2 filaments each: one 21w filament for signaling and a 5w filament for parking - to now be used as running light in the mirrors/tail.

You also get the metal socket. So now, you have to replace the plastic socket with the metal one you got. This one has 3 connections: ground (the socket itself), +12V/21W for the signal terminal (the short wire) and a +12V signal/5W long wire terminal for the running light.

Remember, brown wire means ground when talking about beemers. Connect the brown wire in each mirror to the metal socket, the + wire for signaling, in the bike harness (it's blue if I remember on the bike) to the short wire and you are left with one long wire/mirror. This one is the power source for the 5W filament.

You should connect these 2 together (front two together and read 2 together) and then run them to the bike's front/rear parking light positive terminal. Don't worry, the harness can take up the extra 10W you need.

Dan.

Thanks to everyone that replied back to help me. The wiring part seemed easy in the instructions. But I think the fronts take power off of your parking light wire, and the access that that seemed more involved than what I expected. I know that I sounded helpless. Actually, I do most of my own maintenance including the cam chain tensioner upgrade from Rubber Chicken Racing. But anything with electricity, plus my colorblindness skids me out. Thanks again.
