Alfred02
On DR's recommendation, I start a new thread. 2004 1150RT It's been well documented that the LHS old Cam chain tensioner with the long black spring can cause a fairly noisy rattle on Startup. This tensioner has gone under multiple upgrades, with one being a "three" separate piece unit plus copper washer. From what I have found so far, the latest unit is a 2 piece unit, with the cylinder and a piston assembly (plus copper washer). These are the part numbers I have as the latest unit: 1) Piston p/n 11 31 7 656 922 2) Cylinder p/n 11 31 7 688 629 3) Washer/gasket p/n 07 11 9 963 308 Are these the latest parts ?? Link to comment

4wheeldog
Rubber chicken racing has a kit for just what you want to do: http://rubberchickenracinggarage.com/chain.html The upgrade is well worth the money and is easy to do. Good Luck. Link to comment

cris nitro
Question, Does the death rattle rear it's head the instant you push the starter button? Or does it wait until the engine fires? I have been chasing a start up rattle for a year now, changing the starter, new battery, still rattles on starter operation only and goes away the instant the bike fires. Shop told me it needed a new flywheel, the bike only has 14,000 miles. I've got her apart, did the valves and pulled the stater off and the flywheel looks fine! I'm starting to suspect the tensioner??? Link to comment
Boffin
Yup, it rattles until the oil pressure gets high enough to tension the chain then it quietens down. The rattle can come back at idle if the engine is very hot. The tensioner is a cheap and easy fix. Andy Link to comment
