Guest Kakugo
Hi. I presently have a copy of an older Hexhead workshop manuals covering various 2005 models. So far it has served me quite well. I'd like to know if there's a manual (both in CD or book form) covering later models like my 2009 RT and if there are enough differences to make the purchase worthwhile. Thanks Link to comment
David13
I will say no. The models 2005 to 2009 are the same, basically. I have the Haynes manual, which was updated for the later models (2011 printing). There are some minor changes here and there, such as the position of the drain on the final drive. So I say no. But if you are a purist ... dc Link to comment
JayJay
2005 to 2009 have significantly different brake systems, minor changes in the final drive. CD version of the shop manual is available from BMW. Where there have been changes in the bike that affect the procedures or values the CD has the update; you have to specify when your bike was built once you're in the program to get the right one. I got the CD for my 2009 and at least I feel confident that I have the right torque values when I go futzing around. I'm sure there are newer versions than the one I have, but I don't feel the need to get a new one beyond the one I have that was current with my build date. I am not familiar with the Haynes manual, although I've seen it mentioned here, so I don't know the extent that they update. Good for you that you do your own maintenance! JayJay Link to comment
Guest Kakugo
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll stick to my 2005 CD (bought used on eBay...) for the moment. So far it has served me well. The moment I'll need something I'll just pester you all for more info. Link to comment
w2ge
I have Jim Bades' DVD's.. but has anyone seen or know of a printed manual that covers the 2010+ DOHC models? All seem to to be 2005 to 2009(?) i.e Haynes, etc? Link to comment
wbrissette
The BMW CD for 2009 is pretty lame really. As my relative who is a BMW master mechanic told me, they are really not designed for those of us who want to work on our own bike. They are designed for those who have already been through BMW's technical training courses. I recently purchased the Triumph Tiger 800 service manual and it came in a binder and is pretty good. Still not as good as the Buell/HD service manuals, but the BMW manual is by far the worst service manual out there in my opinion. Wayne Link to comment
1analguy
I have the '05-'09 Haynes manual. The first time I tried to use it was to check on my '07 RT's fuel strip problem...and it doesn't have any info on the fuel strip at all! Major bummer... Link to comment
