There are plenty of motels available. A few years back you could arrive into town and see many vacancies. Check locations with respect to walking distance to Cannery Row. Cannery Row always has the race buzz happening. You can feel it in the air, and ears. Spectators can walk around the entire track which I recommend for the a first timer or any timers. I like watching the main event on the hill between turns one and two. The for a party atmosphere head to the corkscrew. I was very fortunate to watch morning practice from the front straight last year. Man do those GP bikes accelerate hard out of turn 11. There is a big screen across the track in front of the spectators so you can see what TV sees too. The short straight between turn three and four has close access and you can feel the air pressure has the bikes come by. For the well-healed spectators the Laguna Room access has good food and many people connected with racing and press duck in from time to time. Bring a large brim hat, sunscreen and a jacket. It could be hot as hell or foggy and cold.

thanks, does everyone just buy general admission tickets. went to the web site and seat tickets seems to cost minimum 369.00 + fees for a three day pass. Indy has a whole range of seat tickets, some as low as 125.00 for the three days. I am looking at buying a general admission and paddock pass, total cost 125.00 for the three days.

I go to the non-bike races there.

General admission lets you walk around the entire track via a trail system and you can sit in the grandstands on the main straight. A couple bridges let you cross from inside to outside. Sitting on the cordscrew hill lets you see 70-80% of the track just by turning your head.

Be prepared for weather ranging from 50's to 80's+ depending on what the fog is doing.

The higher you go on the hill the more action you are able to see, but... it puts you further from that action and away from the sound, smell, sense of speed, visual detail, etc.

Since you will be there for the practice sessions and qualifying, you will be able to figure out your own personnel preferences. Unfortunately, the best spots for viewing are also the most crowded.

I like to record the races at home because you do miss a lot.

It is a fun event and you will have a good time.
