Bill Lumberg
I'm pretty darn happy with my stock 04 R1150RTP, but at times, especially if I went running that morning, I'll get a hitch in my hip. This has led me to peruse aftermarket floorboards and peg lowering brackets. I'm interested in the experience of folks who own either, and how much they liked or didn't like them. Thanks. NORMBATES
Howdy Bill - I put the peg lowering mounts on my RT, plus I lowered my shifter and brake pedal to match. I'm happy with the arrangement though I do drag the pegs a bit more in the twisties. I'm short of leg else I'd have raised the seat - and I still get a cramp/hitch in my left hip on occasion. Bill Lumberg
Thanks Norm. If you happen to have info on what parts you used, I'd be interested. I am pretty happy with stock, but my fascination with lowering my pegs is one of those things I'll probably have to indulge, if for no other reason than to get it out of my system. Link to comment
dazzz
Norm, I too would be interested in what you did to your brake and shifter. My pegs are lowered and it is just a bit of a problem using the shifter. Link to comment
NORMBATES
Howdy - I got a set of used "Suburban Machinery" lowering blocks off ebay - (http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=39168) also a used shifter and brake pedal - I modified the brake pedal myself by removing the peg (hacksaw and file) and fashioning an extension out of a piece of scrap aluminum to move the peg forward and down to match the relocation of the lowered peg assembly, bolted this to the brake pedal near the location of the original peg and re-attached the brake lever peg with a suitable nut and bolt (crude maybe, but effective)- could have been welded but wasn't sure of the positioning - I'm satisfied with the arrangement now so welding may be in the near future. The extra shifter I took to a welder friend where he reworked it to correspond to the lowered foot peg location. If I was better at posting pictures .... Norm Link to comment
Michelangelo
I have found that my New-to-me 1996 R1100RT is comfy enough now that I have a seatpad added to my Corbin but the dang racer style footpeg location has my hips hurting! I want to assemble a list of links with all available options for footpeg relocation kits. If you have one other than this one from AS Cycle, please post up. If you have some real life opinions please let me know too. http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=39168 http://www.bmwmotorcycleaccessories.com/BMW-R1150RT-Driver-lowering-kit-40-mm-drop-VER-4901-907632.htm http://www.suburban-machinery.com/R1200RT2.htm http://www.whaccessories.com/Foot-Peg-Lowering-Kit-BMW.htm Link to comment

drtnsnw
just put a set of suburban machine peg lowering brackets on this morning. WOW! Very nice!! Had to do some adjustment to my brake but my shifter is perfect. Needed more room for steel toe boots anyway. The brake is a tick hi but I will get used to it I am sure Chris Link to comment
GMC
I installed the Ilium "sport boards" on my 03 RT years ago, and have loved them since day 1. It is possible to drag them a bit in the corners, but mainly because my suspension is worn out (new Ohlins are on the shop counter as I write). I did not lower my shifter or brake. The brake I don't even notice, as I mainly just use that for the ride down my .6 miles of gravel hill each time I leave home. The shifter is a bit of a nuisance though. I don't notice it much with certain riding boots (or more truthfully, just got used to it), but if I'm wearing regular shoes for a hop to work its very noticeable, and not desirable, but certainly manageable. I'll likely mod that shifter at some point. Lowered my foot position about 1.5" if i recall correctly, and that made a huge difference for me. I'm 6'3", and the difference for me on how long i could stay in the saddle was significant. Would never go back. to be clear, I really like the Ilium's, but the key was lowering the foot position, which of course can be done other ways. Link to comment
NORMBATES
Brake Mod Yes, the foot peg rubber needs a replacement, and that's a plastic dolly wheel bolted to the bottom of the peg for an occasional drag thru a tight corner. Link to comment
