Crawdad
Problem is the shock is not going to two helmet or the luggage symbol. Back ground I relocated from CA to FL and trailered the bike and tied it tight to the trailer. ESA worked when I left CA it does not work when I removed from trailer in FL. After research to trouble shoot I applied 12v to the shock and I can hear the electric shock motor cycle to the end I change polarity and I hear it go back. The problem is the shock does not move when I do the procedure. What is the next trouble shooting tip? Link to comment
dirtrider
Afternoon Crawdad First off what year/model you working on? If on your 07 RT then can you see or feel the upper spring seat move when you apply that 12v power. Should be about flush with shock casting when all the way up & extend about 10mm from the shock casting at full extension. If it isn't moving & you are sure the motor is actually runing then there is probably something stripped in the upper seat area. You might have to remove the rear shock from the bike for a closer look in the upper spring seat area. Link to comment
Angel
:lurk: Hi guys: I have long suspected that my ESA wasn't working. In my case, I can use the control to change the settings on the display. The problem, (I think) is that there is no noticeable difference in the suspension, across the various settings. Unlike many, I happen to like the convenience of the ESA, it suits my riding style. At about 22K after the stock shocks were kaput, I had Works Shocks install new springs/shocks on MY ESA units. While the ride was immediately better, this i think was primarily due to the fact that the replacement springs installed by WORKS Shocks were more substantial than the stock. As far as the ESA goes, I still don't think there is significant difference across the various settings. Link to comment
dirtrider
Morning Angel What part don't you think is working? The spring preload height adjustment or the shock dampening change? On the preload height-- to get that change the engine must be running in neutral (you then should be able to feel the rear of the bike go up & down a bit as the system changes rear ride height). If Works used your old ESA castings that should still be operational. On the ESA dampening change-- that I can't comment on as I have no idea if Works incorporated that ability into the units. You probably should call the place that did your shocks to see what they say about feeling the dampening difference. Link to comment
Crawdad
I am also thinking of the Works ESA option. I have not read a negative post about their shocks. Link to comment
Crawdad
I can see the upper spring seat move when I apply the 12v power. I am going to put it all together and see if I jiggled anything so I can control the preload from the ESA button. If not is the next logical conclusion the computer is not recognizing the ESA function and I will need to reset the computer. Is the computer reset a dealer only function? Link to comment
Crawdad
Put if back together and it works. Thanks for all the help now to save up for wilber ESA conversion but until then we are ridin with ESA. Thanks again. Link to comment
