alexp
I've done it in the past. There are two switches we press together and the headlights goes off leaving only the two parking lights on. Link to comment
dirtrider
Evening Alexp On the (older) 1200RTs with key on & engine running you can hold the turn signal cancel button down for the count of 5 then release the cancel button, then simply hold the right turn signal button down for the count of 5 or until the headlight goes out. If the right turn signal starts to flash you did something wrong when holding the cancel button down. On later bikes with the ZFE update the headlight will come back on as soon as the bike starts moving. Link to comment

DR, Do dealers normally upgrade software during routine service or do they wait until there is a customer complaint? I ask because, on my 2007 ST, the headlamps remain off when I start moving. dirtrider
Morning Karl I really don't have a good clear answer for you on that. As a rule the dealers I am familiar with don't do (or even offer) an update useless there is a reason to do so (like a new part added that requires a later firmware/software iteration), or a ridability complaint that needs the update as part of the repair, or sometimes when the bike is hooked to the service computer it will force an update as part of a service or recall procedure. You will probably have to ask your dealer directly how they handle it. Link to comment
TestPilot
Thanks. I'll ask them. Link to comment
hopz
In a related way... the software updates can be confusing and irritating. I was curious about my version ('05 ) and the dealer connected the bike. He said I was something like version 5 and the current one was in the 20's. I asked if he could do the update and he said sure but there was no way to go from an older version to a newer one without doing it sequentially... e.g., 5 to 6 to 7 etc. Said it would take several hours... at the full hourly rate of course. I still have version 5 - no problem. Link to comment
dirtrider
Morning Hopz I think your dealer fibbed to you just a bit. While it's true that some later versions do require one or two (or a few) earlier updates installed before (it) gets installed they all don't need to go in in a sequential order, just the key ones. CoarsegoldKid
HIJACK: My '05 has never had an update because I never brought it in. Runs fine 83K plus. I figure the less they mess with it the better. If there's an update that increases torque or is a must to have than when new do tell. Link to comment
Buckster
My '06 originally would have the low beam stay off until the ignition was turned off then on. It has had 1 update sometime in late 2007. Since then the low beam stays off until the high beam is turned on, moving or not. As I remember, there is a limited number of updates that can be loaded into the ZFE (body computer), 13 comes to mind... Link to comment
