I just saw this on moa today. Yes, sort of nice, artistic, or artsy, but legitimate looking. But what is it supposed to be? Or signify? Who is the old man? Is it an advertisimo?

Now I don't speaka de Eyetalian, so maybe that would help me.

The title of the video is "The Future Cannot Exist Without the Past" and is a promotional video for the BMW motorcycle dealership, Bellan and Giardina, in Vicenza, Italy. I was stationed in Vicenza in the early 90's, at the time the motorcycle dealership was part of the BMW auto dealer and was conveniently located across the street from the Army post. Sebastiano Giardina was the bike mechanic at the dealership then and is now the Giardina in Bellan & Giardina. The "old man" is Ubaldo Bellan, I assume he is the father of the Bellan in the video. I first learned of him in an Italian MC magazine where he was listed in an article that outlined the "experts" on classic motorcycles. Realizing the town listed as his address was near Vicenza I asked at the dealership if they knew him. Of course they did and made arrangements for me to meet him at his home with a group of friends. He gave us a tour of his extensive collection and even with our limited Italian coupled with his limited english we still had a very informative visit. The one thing that really sticks out was his explanation of a German WWII sidecar rig which had a low gear to allow soldiers to crawl alongside using the sidecar as cover. He also showed us a BMW twin which had the cylinders canted to maximize cooling airflow, a feature on the then new R1100RS I was riding, his comment was along the lines of "there is really nothing new". His collection, his house, and the man himself were all very interesting. Somewhere I have some pictures from that visit, I may try and dig them up.
