Eric's RTP Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 My 07 RT-P sometimes sounds like the starter drive is slipping. The engine is not turning and starter makes "spinning" sound and when I release the button there is a "clunk" sound as the starter stops spinning. It is NOT the battery or cables, because 95% of the time the starter works fine. Any one know of a NON dealer source for a starter for this bike? I have seen some starters for slightly older RT's (1150's) but none for this year. Thanks Eric
Guest Kakugo Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Try contacting Beemer Boneyard. They had a few starters for sale a few days ago.
enfoman Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Why don't you pull the starter and take the bendix drive apart to clean and lube it? May save you a bit of cash and it is a straight forward repair. only will cost you a little time. Bench test it then reinstall. Cannot hurt before laying down some cash.
David13 Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I don't know who has a rebuild kit. But there should be one somewhere. That's the cheapest, and best if it's done right. Depending on the problem with it, which usually can be discerned by pulling it. dc Oh Enfo got in there. I would also, depending on age and miles, do the rebuild. At least open it and look at the brushes.
