dan cata Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Hi all, Yesterday a friend came by and we done some work on the bike, all OK except syncing the TB's. This bike does not have the usual TB's as the rest of the oilheads, perhaps you already know this, they are located under the airbox, on the center of the bike. Anyway, I would like to know how to sync this bike. I have found nothing so far. I guess if someone would tell me where the adjusting screws are, it would do. Thanks! Dan.
enfoman Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 These are balanced and synced at the factory. DO NOT ATTEMPT ADJUSTMENT!!! If you are having idle or popping problems, the issue is not there. Chromeheads has much info posted on this. If you need specific help, PM me. Most likely case for poor idle is leaking grommets on intake runners.
dan cata Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 This does not make too much sense. AFAIK, after each valve adjustment, a sync is needed. Right? Do you know where the adjusting screws are located? I saw 2 allen screws that can be accessed from under the seat, via a long allen key. What are those doing? Dan.
Jerry Duke Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I might be wrong but I thought the R1200C bikes only had one throttle body that fed both cylinders.
4wheeldog Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I might be wrong but I thought the R1200C bikes only had one throttle body that fed both cylinders. That was my understanding as well. Checking all the other obvious stuff (Valve adjustment, spark plug condition etc) might get you what you want. Oh, and there should be a BBS on that single throttle body, to set the idle. Good luck! ps: If it really sounds like the cylinders are out of balance, checking for air leaks downstream of the throttle body would be advisable.
dirtrider Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Morning Dan That 1200C is a beast of a different color from the regular 1100/1150/1200 Boxers. The throttle body assembly consists of 2 single throttle bodies bolted together into a single unit. There is an adjuster between the throttle shaft connectors mid way between the individual TB units but neither Bing or BMW recommends ever messing with that adjustment as it effect the TPS as well as the metering. You can mess a bit with the bypass screws (those hex head screws in the concave recesses in the rear but that is for idle only. Even the idle speed should be left alone as the computer controls that. First off- just check the balance at idle & above idle, unless you have an air leak in the intake between the TB assembly & intake valve it should probably be close. Or you could have coked up bypass passages. I haven't ever messed with the center connector adjuster on the C as Bing says that if that gets messed up the TB unit has to go back to Bing for re-calibration. Also on the very few C's I have worked on there hasn't been a need to.
