beemerman2k Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 In my 20's, it was Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Space Invaders, and more than any of them, Missile Command! I played that last game so often that when I laid down to go to sleep at night, I could see the missiles falling down on my cities just like in the video game. In my 30's, it was all the Doom and the Quake series of games. I had a network cable that ran out my window and into my neighbors window, and he and I would play literally until the following morning. In my 40's I bought my first BMW motorcycle, and so I was temporarily cured of my addiction. Now, my girls got a Microsoft XBox 360 Kinnect, and I feel myself getting awfully weak. So, if I'm going to throw the rest of my life away living in a virtual world, where should I spend it? Right now, the primary candidate is, "Call of Duty: Black Ops". The other series is, "The Gears of War". I love violent, shoot 'em up -- all out take no prisoners/leave no one standing -- war! The last game I enjoyed that was somewhat along these lines was, "Crysis" on my PC. OK, so does anyone have any recommendations for me? How about motorcycle road racing games, any good ones here? Any games to avoid? (NOTE: yeah I know, violent games are causing the deterioration of our society. Morals are devalued, families are decimated, church pews sit empty, all because men are at home in the basement shooting it out with all manner of virtual life forms. Terrible, I know. This is exactly why I must suit up, go in there, and destroy all the virtual enemies. That way these men can safely return to their real lives and be united with their families and communities, just like our military pull out from Iraq. By enabling these American citizens to leave their basements and feel the warm sun upon their faces once again, I will have saved the country, and maybe even the world Wish me luck in my extremely dangerous endeavor. Dismissed! )
Danny caddyshack Noonan Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 it was all the Doom and the Quake series of game 8 years or so clean and First Person Shooter Sober. We used to play Quake, at lunch, on the LAN where I worked in '03 or so. One day an IT guy calls up asking if we were doing something on the LAN and something about bandwidth. We thought we were very busted...until he asked to join in.
Mrs. Caddis Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 From the college age players in our house: Halo 3 (a bit older), Saints Row 3 (not war, but shooter), Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (is THE game to play, but RPG), Battlefield 3 (main competitor of Call of Duty). They want to know if you have "connect" for the system for motion controlled games?
DaveTheAffable Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 And I thought I was "knocking 'em dead" cause I reached level 2-16 in Angry Birds. On my cell phone. That I discovered this week. Even though I've had the phone a year. Nevermind....
hANNAbONE Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 oPERATION fLASHPOINT...roam anywhere ya want - love it. Call of Duty - good stuff too
Kathy R Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I love violent, shoot 'em up -- all out take no prisoners/leave no one standing -- war! Long ago I played Doom, alot. The monsters and bad guys and general blood and guts scared me so much I bought the book of secrets. That allowed me to enjoy playing, because I gave myself LIFE and ALL WEAPONS. Just thinking of how that raised my blood pressure makes me shudder
beemerman2k Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 They want to know if you have "connect" for the system for motion controlled games? Yes I do, it's spelled, "Kinect", and it's amazing technology. I was wondering if any of the shooters supported this technology. That would be pretty cool if they did as you would then have a more realistic experience

Matts_12GS Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I remember playing DOOM on my laptop during a business flight out of DC in late 1997, my headphones were partially unplugged and I didn't realize it until the flight attendant asked me to plug them back in because the gunfire and screams were distracting other passengers... For me it was Duke Nukem, Quake and Half Life... I wish you well in your quest James!
beemerman2k Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 Wow, Matt, that's a funny story. Good thing it happened pre-9/11. I shudder to think what would have happened post-9/11
Mister Tee Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 For me, X Plane 10 would be the ultimate video game. And it isn't even completely a toy, the commercial version, when used with the appropriate control console and rudder pedals, counts as simulator time for IFR work. I have Doom on my Iphone. Surprisingly, it's almost as easy to play as the PC version.
Huzband Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Maybe we should start a BMWST fund for your orphaned girls now.
beemerman2k Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 Maybe we should start a BMWST fund for your orphaned girls now. Theyre as bad as I am! I can't come near that machine until after their bed time. But once 9PM comes, that thing is all mine.
WestTX RT Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 My wife and kids think I have to have the latest in games, even though the only time I turn them on is when they are home (all married off). So I have a Wii and a PS3. Funny story, they got me a Call of Duty for Christmas last year and I played it w/ son and SIL online, then I played in an open session, which I guess was by ability level, with a bunch of 8 year olds, and kicked some butt. Then I got in a room when my son and SIL were on w/ me, and I couldn't go a step without getting killed. We had headsets on and the butt sneezes we were playing with gave me holy hell. The PS3 does make a good NetFlix and Blue Ray player, so I used it for that more than anything else.
pbbeck Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I just picked up Battlefield 3 for the PS3. It's amazing. I love MW2 and MW3. Black Ops, not so much. Battlefield 3 is far more cinematic than the Call of Duty series. Give it a try.
Woodie Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 My son (16) loves Cod: Black Ops, over Halo at this point. He also has a Tom Clancy one, where you give voice commands to the other squads. None of them are Kinect capable. I searched for Kinect games for him, and the only thing was Dance xxxx 3 (which my daughter is really enjoying). He (I) got another controller for Christmas, so I'll get to play with him shortly. Should be "interesting".
