Rt4Me Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Doing my clutch bleed and took my 10mm speedbleeder and tried putting it into the check valve that is existing on the line and the threads are buggered up so my speedbleeder is not going on. Threads are stripped out. Can I take off the check valve that is on the line and screw my speedbleeder in directly or do I have to fix the threads? Need help fast as I'm in the middle of this procedure? Thanks
Rt4Me Posted November 25, 2005 Author Posted November 25, 2005 After further search it looks like I can take off the fill adapter and screw in the speedbleeder directly. That is what I will have to do as the threads are messed up on the fill adapter.
steve.foote Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Bill, how did the threads get messed up? The manual is pretty specific about not operating the bike without the grub screw in place. I would assume the grub screw won't stay either. I found that my original speedbleeder wouldn't thread properly until I filed the point off the end of it.
JonathanE Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 I don't think that the Speedbleeder is expected to thread into the fill adapter/check valve thingy. I removed the fill adapter from my 1150 and tossed it. the speedbleeder threads diectly into the end of the hydraulic line. Buy a rubber boot to cover the closed bleeder at your local parts bin. Call me if you would like me to send you a picture or anything.
ericfoerster Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Jonathan, can you post the pic here or send me one. I am doing mine this week. I want the bases covered before I start. Thanks in advance.
Rt4Me Posted November 28, 2005 Author Posted November 28, 2005 I buggered up the threads of the fill adapter trying to put the speedbleeder in. My fault not paying attention and crossed threaded it. So I removed the fill adapter and screwed the speedbleeder in directly. No problems and I'm back in working order. This board ROCKS!!!
KMG_365 Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Eric, et al. Here's a link of the whole procedure and there are some pics that will clarify a bit of this discussion contained therein. It really helps to file down the tip of the speedbleeder if you're going to keep the filler adapter, otherwise, it really doesn't matter which way you go. A stock bleeder makes a one-person job a lot more difficult (you have to close in between pumps of the lever), but not impossible if you're creative (but better to get help or use the SB's).
