I thought I throw this out there. See if it sticks. Anyone is welcome to join us. You can even stay at my house Wednesday evening if you wish.

Franz and I are leaving on Thursday morning for backroads and cow trails from near Coarsegold eventually through Springville, Johnsondale, and staying at McNally's Lodge north of Kernville. The next day we will attempt Sherman Pass. The pass goes over 9K feet so it may not be passable at the time. If that's the case we ride through the Lake Isabella area. Maybe we even meet up the Mojave crowd in Olancha.

I originally thought I would ride thru' Sherman Pass for this ride. But I am now convinced Sherman Pass is going to be closed.

I'm going to try an advrider thread to get current info about it.

David I spoke to someone at McNally's who indicated that the pass is iffy in November due to snowfall. However early November is possible. There was snow two weeks ago but there has also been heat since then. No storms are predicted in the near future so it might be a go. I don't really care because Thursday's route will be great.

Save me a piece of that 52oz T-Bone Bubba...

Nice place, if ya postponed it a day I'd meet ya, but you guys that don't have to work anymore knock yourselves out.

No pics, it didn't happen. You'll be going slow enough on Sherman that someone should be able to get some pics in.

Can't do the pre-run.... So Richard can try and request the time off (which he has to do this week), when is DVD in January?????

:)

Richard's just trying to avoid Biff, I paste his picture to a bone each day and let Biff savage it.

IN with the wife. Not sure if someone's taking a head count for the Sat Steak dinner but put us down for 2. I've always made the January DVD, but never the pre run. What's the temps like in November? Not still Africa hot I hope.

+2 for the dinner as well.

The wife and I are planning to head up there for the anniversary on the 11th. Might head up on Thursday and tootle around.

When I spoke to Pat at the Exchange a month ago she said there would be a group of motorcyclists staying the weekend. She also said they aren't the loud type... they're on BMW's. Ha!

Oh yeah, here's weather for a little valley to the west of Beatty....

Thanks for the links. I know I'm different than most in that I prefer to the cold to the hot. I can always put on layers or turn on electrics, but once it gets too hot there's only so much you can take off on the bike. 80's and less are good to see for the valley. I didn't even mind the one year it was in the 5F-15F range and gave Wurty frost bite.

I'm doing a simple head count here-(no, not simple minds )

We've got just over 40 so far! Dinner is still on at KCs, I take it for granted most everyone plans on being there. Steak and all the fixin's for a 20 dollar bill

The Casino up the street has a breakfast buffet going on durning a dining room remodel,8 bucks and pretty unremarkable.....

I was just over in Beatty last Friday and the weather was absolutly perfect...80s during the afternoon, light jacket at night, cool in the morning

Sherman Pass should be open (be sure to take Coarsegold up on his offer to ride through there!) and the usual suspects will most likely meet in Mojave again for the "somewhat sedate" ride to Olancha for brunch on Friday ;)

This is gonna be a good one

I think I'm IN.....made a reservation but never got a confirmation. Need to check my records. If I've got a room and clearance from the mother ship....sign me up for 1 at the dinner.

What would a DVD event be like without the "Dude"? Boring I tell ya. I'm in. I might have an extra bed available if my son can't make it.

Hey Joe.....don't know at this point. I was thinking of going East from here then down 95. Weather will likely be the deciding factor. Your route is likley more fun....Not familier with McNally's. Tell me more!

Yum, Yum.... :/...Think great steak on the Kern River.... Tell 'im Joe......

This is what I hear. They have lodging of various kinds. Google them to get all the info. Oh! by far my route is the best. We will take Sherman Pass instead of Walker Pass, conditions permitting. I'm willing to bet money that you haven't taken Sherman Pass ever. You don't want to miss this.

I will be at McNally's Thursday night with Coarsey and The Franz, and Tank and whoever.

RT John was to ride with me on Friday but he can't make it Thursday; so he will have to answer for himself; unless someone else answers for him.

Longjohn and I were going to ride also on Friday. I think he still has to check his days off. But he planned to bring several people with him, at least two or more, I think.

So put me down for 1 dinner on Saturday night.

40 people so far??!! At a restaurant with 10 tables?? We will be eating in shifts. "Eat faster, some of you!" they will yell. "We have more people to feed!".

No problem. I can eat standing up.

As long as you're counting heads, I'll be bringing mine with me...

Just the one though. I can't seem to locate the spare.

Give me a time to be in Mojave and I'll sedately head up to Olancha with yas.

A note to any riders coming to DVD from the south that also plan on riding through Trona, to be absolutely sure you top off fuel in Mojave. I just now read a message posted on my jeep club board that there has been no gas in Trona for prox one month and none expected available the weekend of Nov 11-13. The annual Cal4Wheel "Panamint Valley Days" is being held that same weekend. The PVD event is held on the west side of DV, so should not present traffic problems for us (yes, I'm hoping to come too) but folks should be aware of the fuel issue in Trona in any case.

As someone who normally goes through there, thanks for the heads up. That's normally been my last fill up on my way into the valley and definitly would not have been a happy camper to find out the hard way. Wonder why they're out? Last time I was through there it had 2 gas stations.

Brian, unsure as to reason but the information source is one who lives there and prepares access roads for the PVD event.

We've been able to get from Beatty to Mojave on one tank of gas, but it's usually with the low fuel indicator lit up...but Trona is such a nice place to stop!
