Sure hope the UN isn't anywhere near there! Hot, sweaty, mostly flat, blech. (Spent my honeymoon on Lake of the Ozarks in 1979, BTDT)

It doesn't look so appealing on google maps, I can say that much...

I just hope the thoughts expressed at the LSI about moving it back to somewhere near the middle of country come to fruition. Of course, Missouri wouldn't be my ideal spot for a middle of the country gathering either.... :dopeslap::rofl:

I get Access Denied on that.

I went to the first Eureka Springs UN and enjoyed it, nice country, we could justify a return by saying the rain ruined the first one.

Fixed....

By the way, I was not as impressed with the roads in that area as everyone else was. JMHO, YMMV.

There are a lot of good roads in north Arkansas, but nothing like NW NC.

I had a good time riding through MO coming back from Gillette in 118 degrees, with equal parts humidity. My Stitch stayed totally dry on the outside. :dopeslap:

We have one base point in Sedalia MO, Draftermike lives there.

I wouldn't mind returning to Eureka Springs.

As I recall you had pretty much the same sentiments about the latest Un location. And from recent reports, you were dead wrong concerning the weather.

Maybe you could put on an Un in Torrey, thus being part of the solution. Just a thought.

Grand Lake, Colorado.

Good riding to the west - very nice loop to the east through RMNP then back over Poudre Canyon.

For riding, scenery, and comfortable temps, central Colorado's tough to beat.

The roads north and east of Russellville, Arkansas (Ozark Natl. Forest) look good on Google Maps though I've never been to the area. Just spitballing.

I expect the time of year might have to adjust though.

I lived in Saint Louis for 45 years before moving to Colorado. I have a habit of telling people that bad weather was invented in Saint Louis. Admittedly, STL is located at the intersection of two major rivers, but on average, it rained three out of every seven days.

The Ozarks of extreme Southern MO and Northern AR are nice when compared to STL, but I would rather ride in Central to Southwest CO.

The first and main requirement for any Un is a volunteer or a few volunteers who sacrifice for month energy, work, probably sleepless nights,

to UNorganize a UNrally. It is up to these volunteers to decide where a UN is going to be. We are extremely fortunate that for ten years now there were these heroes who worked this out for us. We can't thank them enough. I hope the tradition of the UN can go on, but we can't really expect a guarantee that there will always somebody to do it.

There was a lot of talk amongst some previous organizers about doing one again...

I have no idea who is considering organizing the next UN nor where it might be. I think my offer to do the registration again has already been relayed by whoever does know. If not, consider it offered, whether the UN is in a sweaty hell hole or on a holy mountain top.

Maybe Colorado can be a theme! Found this today on the MOA Facebook group.

Start making your plans. The 2012 Top O' The Rockies Rally in Paonia, CO will be July 12-15th, 2012. The weekend before the BMWMOA National Rally in Sedalia, MO. See you there!

Had a great time in Little Switzerland.

All of the UNS have been organized by volunteers. Early on we searched out and asked people. The last couple have been run by people who asked me if they could put one on  . I am aware that the organizers of the one before this would gladly do another. They did a wonderful, wonderful job but I would prefer to spread the wealth, so to speak.

As to place, we do try to move it back and forth and explore the country a bit in the process. The attendance has been pretty even no matter how far east or west we've gone. Cody was fabulous as are the roads around CO. One way or the other, it should be west of center this time.

So, any takers?

Anybody live close to this place? Colorado, to Arkansas, to Missouri? Seems to have hotel, cabin, tent camping, a large restaurant and conference center. They even boast of their high speed Internet.

Maybe earlier or later in the year, but not in the middle of the summer. Area looks OK.

It takes considerable time just to research and check out good meeting places, not just the riding areas. Good, affordable lodging, with nice amenities and camping facilities - that's not an easy combination to find. Start looking for those and then the selection process becomes much easier.

Grand Junction would be another good location.

the only issue with earlier or later in the year, you cut out most members related to education industry. Most teachers, counselors, admin stafff etc, and in many cases the spouse of these professions cannot take off once school starts. On the other hand, you can never satisfy everyone, so just make your choice and go with it. We just had an UN about 4 hours from my house and due to family issues, I could not even make one day. however I made the whole 2008 UN in Oregon easily. It seems you just never know.

You're right, Randy. Although I'm not sure of your point.

In a matter of ten minutes, I planned a 50CC, made arrangements to escort 2bmwfan, & although her bike quit on her, WE made adjustments to luggage & made John Day on time & without trailer.

Since Matt & Shawn are my close friends, I'd rather have made their Un than suffer the economic effects of late.

I presume your post with regard is about timing. I get that. Because if economic timing were better, I'd have been in Little Switzerland instead of Switzerland

your correct, I was just making reference to the fact earlier or later has as much affect (in some cases) as weather/temp/location might. It seems in my case, the UN's I make are unexpected and the UN's I miss, it seems like Murphy's law. I was only referencing my experiences not commenting on anyone else's.

This place looks wonderful, but I think the room rates for peak season will be too steep for our group.

I don't think you can consider cost an issue from the published rates. Groups usually can obtain a lower price point. If you looked at the published rates for the Switzerland Inn, they were somewhere between 20-40% higher than our group rate.

This place, Mount Magazine, looks great and seems to be in a nice riding area. However, it's short comings seem (after only a short perusal of their website and no discussion of group discounts) to be more a matter of too few beds and limited food/gas options.

It's only a 60-room lodge, with a total of 103 beds. If we include the cabins, that adds an additional 22 bedrooms with beds (though there may be sleeper sofa arrangements, I don't know). But in the end it would seem they could only accomodate right around 125 folks, plus some number of folks doubling up in beds (i.e., couples or really, understanding single folk).

It appears there are few gas options readily available and fewer food options.

None of these are a showstopper, but generally the larger the group, the more are needed/appreciated. Generally ...

That's exactly the foundation of every UnRally we've had. And while the discussion of potential locations is great, remember that we rotate them from west to east and back every year. This year, it's the west's turn to host it.

To that end, the UnRally Number 11 forum is open. There you'll find an explanation of what's needed in terms of location for such an event. Take a look and see if you're the kind of person who has the organizational skills to put this event on for the membership. Remember, it doesn't have to be complicated. It's not a Rally. It's an UNRally. So find a location with a hotel, camping, and great roads and scenery. Follow the rest of the guidelines, and submit your proposal.

Approximately. But discussions of where people would like to have the Un are fruitless without a team submission of where people will work to actually put the Un on. IOW, "We Want" doesn't get it done as well as "We Will." To that end, yes, we are accepting complete proposals for the 2013 Un, to be head in the Eastern half of the continent.

If anyone wants to submit a proposal for the 2013 Un, and wants to know what the parameters are that they should be working within, please contact me or any Admin and we'll be glad to put together those guidelines for you.
