Uncle Beemer
Does anyone know if there is a sure fire way to check a coil to see if it's good? I've got spark at the plug but not all the time. Here's a pic of the part in question. http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Ignition-Coil/1258404S/1602571 Link to comment

Uncle Beemer
While I appreciate your response, the link that you provided assumes that my Kohler engine will start. If it would start I wouldn't have asked the question. A new coil is 50 bucks. Don't want to toss money around. Thanks again. Link to comment
Richard_D
Sorry about that. Kohler has a number you can call .If troubles persist after checking all possible causes listed in the foregoing categories or you are unable to detect the cause, call the Kohler Co. (920-457-4441) and ask for Engine Customer Service. Back to top http://www.kohlerengines.com/maintenance/basicTroubleshooting.htm Link to comment
Calvin (no socks)
Have seen iron deposits from a rusty fuel system cause a plug to short out when hot/cold and not start...spark is a constant, unless the points are not opening properly.... if that is the case the eccentric is worn and must be replaced along with the point/eccentric follower.
