Almost new 2005 R1200RT?

Hi guys,

I have an opportunity to purchase an "always garaged" 05 1200rt with less than 2000 miles. Obviously the bike is in impeccable condition and the owner is asking approx. $10,000. Just wanted to hear what you folks think about this deal as well as the 05rt overall. I see prices ranging from $8500-$14,000 for 05's.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Less than 2000 or less than 20,000?

Some say not riding the bike is worse wear than riding it, over that long of a period of time.

I'd be suspicious about why it wasn't used much.

Look it over good. It may be ok. But still put in a low offer, it is 6-7 years old.

And also have someone else look it over good.

Keep in mind a full end to end fluids change, including a full brake fluid flush. 6 years old tires are not that good either.

bike has less than 2,000 miles. Was trailer-ed to destinations. Rode annually locally. Owned by a woman who had back issues. Some warranty work done but have no specifics. Battery recently replaced.

I would look it over carefully, but wouldn't hesitate if it looks as good the second and third perusals as it did on the first. That's what I did to a 2003 K1200RS with only 2850 original miles a few months back. I changed the tires and all the fluids (except the clutch fluid) and it now has about 8000 (s)miles. It replaced my '05 RT that took me 71K trouble-free miles before I crashed it. As much as I enjoy the RS, I do miss that RT.....best all-around motorcycle I have owned.

That's because you've not ridden a GS ;-)

I bought my 04RT last August with 4500mi on it ($8000). Here's what I ran into: tires were original and although they looked basically new, the new RP2's I put on handled a 1000X better. Needed a brake fluid flush, probably was original fluid. Brake lines needed replacement. Engine not "broken in" yet, used more oil than it does now (I'm currently at 13,000mi). Battery was original and was a little weak. It would always start the bike even on a cold morning but was starting to reset the clock every time. Also replaced fuel disconnects. Basically all maintenance stuff, nothing major yet.
