problem setting valves

I tried to set valves today and I'm stumped.

Normally the feeler guage goes between valve stem and rocker arm, but my RT has a cone that sits on valve and fits into rocker.

Where does the flat feeler go?

I've set valves for years, I feel like a dummy , especially when I over titened vc bolt and broke it of in head.

That was an extra hr spent on my knees drilling and ezy out.

Somebody help the old guy....

Well, taking you at your request for helping out a fellow old guy...

Buy yourself a very good and accurate torsion beam torque wrench. For engine work, it's essential. The Valve Cover bolts require 7Nm (about 5 foot-pounds) to tighten. It doesn't take much more than that to strip the threads.

Also, this will help you out. I printed a copy and bound it. You can download it from here: http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/JVB%20valve%20adjust.html

I hope that this helps.

Thanks Andy. He's been wealth of information for me here locally and a gracious Tour Meister, I just hadn't noticed him here. Hope I didn't offend like I did pulling a low-side when he was leading a ride ;-)

None taken...

I've told that low-side story a hundred times already. Wish we had a picture of the hole in the rocker cover that we plugged with a tree branch and duct tape!
