Cruise Control - 2 Modes?

The cruise control on my 2011 R1200RT appears to have two different modes. One that acts as described in the manual and a second which when you push the lever as to reduce your speed it will completly shut the cruise off. Also when in this mode the resume does not function and sometimes I have to push the lever to set the speed, twice before it takes. It can be in one mode or the other for hours or somtimes days. Anyone else seen this?

It sounds to me as if your switch is bad. I have had that switch replaced twice. Originally, my high beam switch was acting up. Then my turn signal was acting up. The service department stated that it is a known problem by BMW that this switch is defective. Take it in for a warranty claim.

Yes, your switch is bad. Mine too. My resume does not work 95% of the time. If you switch the cruise function on and off a bunch of times you can get it to work. I think it's a safety issue. I go to decelerate on a busy highway and my cruise shuts off!

I need to take my bike in also.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. When we get back from our vacation I will bring it in to the dealer.

+1 & +2 on the defective switch.

On my 2010, the horn stopped working. Turned out to be the switch. Warranties are great for that kind of stuff.

Good to see I'm not imagining this issue. Mine does the exact same thing. Going to print this thread and bring it to my dealer. After sitting out in the rain I have to mess with the switch a bit and then resume works.

Ahhh

Why are you in cruise control on a busy highway - to me that is the safety issue.

I just finished a 750 mile trip- using the cruise most of the time, and it never malfunctioned. So far so good/knock on wood.

And nothing wrong with using cruise on a busy highway.

Well, one month and 2000 miles and my new replacement switch failed over the weekend. Fortunately, it will still set but won't decrease speed or resume. Back to the drawing board.
