In jan '10 I totalled my '04 RT and today I finally replaced it. Picked up a '06 RT with all the goodies. The PO had some things wired in that he removed and I was wondering if anyone recognizes the things in these pics and can tell me what he had wired in.

some kind of touratech panel

2 wires labeled Gerbings

2 wires I found stuffed under the seat

IMAG0320.jpg

2 wires laying by a possible gps mount

IMAG0324.jpg

12v adapter with 1 or 2 indicator lights

When I get the tupperware off the first time I might have a better idea what he had wired in but until then someone here might recognize something.

One more question-the bike came witha 49l topcase but no key!! It is unlocked so I can use it but can't lock it or remove it. The dealership is going to continue to try to contact the PO but they said the case is usually damaged when removing the lock cylinders-any ideas?

thanks

The two round male and female connectors-wires under the seat are for heated gear/jacket.

The connectors look exactly the same for my Tour-Master-Synergy-Heated-Jacket and one of the fuse block next to the battery also looks exactly the same ( for heated jacket)

When heated gear is not used I connect to it to get non-CANBUS 12V to run other stuff such as compressor, 12V power distribution/3 way splitter to run phone ,camera, chargers on longer trips. It is on a 15 or 30 amp fuse, can't remember. it is routed into a tourateck flat tank bag.

The top photo is a switched fuse panel.

There are 3 input wires: Battery +, Battery -, and the control which is typically tied to the parking lamp or any other source of switched power.

The tabs provide power to accessories. On side is +, the other side is -. A single fuse limits total current to the + tabs.

the bottom picture is a 12 Volt socket standard Automotive type,

may be even a cigaret lighter socket(unlikely), flip the plastic cover and let's look :)

The little socket above the red light:

Can't tell in the pic, it is too small, a micro switch or a small modified charging or power supply socket for a device.

Grab a digital volt meter and measure voltage.

thanks-I guess I will be stripping that out. does anyone need these for their heated gear? MY heated gear plugs into the powerlet type socket.

thanks for the info. So then I should be able to hook up my zumo, autocom and my motolights to that?

thanks-I knew it was a 12 socket but I was wondering about the light-it appears to come on when the radio is playing. I can't tell what the other small thing is yet.

I found something else inside near the cigarette lighter plug . Here is a pic.

also the gps wire was plugged directly into a plug that is part of the wiring harness. Any ideas whether I could use that plug for my zumo?

thanks again

Be careful using the Powerlet plug for your heated gear. BMW limits the draw on them. I'm not sure of the limit on your 06 but it;s 10A total on the newer bikes. You might want to plug it all in and see if it works before winter comes.

I googled that also and saw that. I will probably remove the radio because I would rather have the storage space. thanks all for the help and answers. I've been studying here and at the moa forum and it seems that most of the maintenance is very similar to my '04RT. So I'll be doing the fluids, sync, valves and abs flush here real soon. thanks again.

The fourth photo down in the original posting is a power supply supply for the OEM Garmin/BMW GPS Nav III. Behind that in the photo is the mount for the GPS. These were basically a Garmin Street Pilot model 28xx. I assume you do not have the GPS. The mount is very expensive and if you wanted I'm sure you could sell it easily. The mount will accept many other StreetPilot 26/27/2800 models BUT you will not be able to use the GPS controls seen on the left side of the GPS mount except with the Garmin/BMW model. Behind that power cable there also ought to be a 3.5mm male cable connected to the lower left side of the GPS mount.*

I had the same thing on my '06 RT and moved to to the '09 RT when I bought it.

*Here's a picture of the OEM GPS mount on my RT. You can see the 3.5mm audio cable on the lower left of the mount.
