Glenn Reed
When I went to RCR a few weeks ago, RT-Jim and another Ohio rider, Joe, and I were discussing an upcoming trip I am planning to Mid-Ohio for Vintage Motorcycle Days July 22-24. We discussed the triple nickel, Ohio 555, and I was told to make sure I had that on my route. This is the route I came up with. (It ends at a friends workplace, not Mid-Ohio.) If anyone has suggestions for improvement, let me know. I am taking Friday to get out there, and we are planning on going to the Flat Track races at the Ashland County Fairgrounds that evening. All day Saturday at the track and flea market, the same for most of Sunday, and then slab it back home that night so I can go to work on Monday morning. If anyone else is going to be there, let me know and we'll figure out how to get together. Thanks! Link to comment
Paul Mihalka
Good route, but it will be a looong day! Link to comment
Glenn Reed
Good route, but it will be a looong day! Agreed. As you well know, the slab runs well out to WVA. I haven't taken I79 southbound in many years, but based on what we saw going to and from RCR, it should be in good shape. So my plan is to get started fairly early and move pretty quickly until I get off the Interstate in Clarksburg. I would hope that US50 would still provide decent velocities, and then spend the second portion of the ride on the secondary roads. Last year I went more direct, but with fewer Interstate miles, getting off of I70 and onto US40 through SW PA to Wheeling. Secondary roads to the same destination. Got there five minutes later than planned after a bridge over the Interstate was not there due to construction. Taking a full day like that, especially on a weekday, can be a real head clearer. Hopefully there will be other BMWSTer's there to say hello to over the weekend. Link to comment
Glenn Reed
Actually, Sunday ends up being the long day, with packing up in the morning at my buddies house, riding an hour south to Mid-Ohio, watching races for a while, maybe a test ride, and then getting on the RT for 450 miles to get home. Sleep won't be a problem that night.... Link to comment
RT_Jim
Glenn - Depending on if you want to make the ride a little quicker, you could always take 78 into McConnelsville, and then take 60 north. It will take you almost all the way to your friends's place. Another option is from Zanesville, head towards Dresden (home of the Longaberger Basket company - your wife will know about them) and then 16 into Coshocton (old Ohio Canal town with a cute historic district) and take 83 north. 83 is one of my favorite roads. Then take 604 over to 42 to your friend's house. If you (or your friend) like beef jerky, I'll tell you about a place just north of him that has GREAT jerky for a really good price. I (and lots of other motorcyclists) go there all the time for jerky. Straight down 42 into Lexington to get to Mid-Ohio. Hopefully the weather will hold for you! BTW, if anything happens, I'm in Columbus - give me a call. Still no bike but I do have a car! Jim Link to comment
