Starfighter
Both Karen and I are already Iron Butt certified. BUT....lately I've been thinking that maybe I'm getting too old (68) for that 1000 mile day. Last week I said that I wanted to try a Saddle Sore 1000. My girl said "trane, trane, trane..wait for cooler weather." All saturday night I'm thinking "but I'm getting older every day." So.....Sunday morning 7/3/11 @ 2:00 a.m. I fired up and hit the road. Down the slab with a song in my heart.......... Rode 525 miles and turned around................... 106F hot, hot, hot................. Little girl at a fuel stop said "you look hot." "what do you have to lower my body temperature"? She said "buy one of those icy slurpy things and I'll fix a chair for you in the walk in cooler." Ahhhhhh....what a sweetheart....... 10:00 p.m. I returned to my starting point 1050 miles in 20 hours. Karen had a tub full of cold water with a few ice cubes floating in it and a cold beer waiting for me......... Who's getting old ???? Link to comment

Glenn Reed
Since Hydrilla just chimed in here, a) Good job on both of you! b) Any tips for those of us considering similar excursions? I have read the tips on the ironbutt page, but was wondering if you had any other little things you would like to point out? Again, congrats to both of you! Link to comment
Starfighter
relax.......plenty of time without speeding..................... Double ck all receipts for time, date, city..................... A cool wrap around the neck really helps....(hot days).......... A hydration unit on your back is good........(hot days)......... get Fuel receipt at all "corners"..wherever you change roads........so your route is obvious. I ran into a challange because I didn't call my credit card company and tell them I'd be making many small purchases along a long route and security put a hold on my card.................. Sunday before a Monday holiday is a good day for slabs w/ little traffic....................... Link to comment
