RTinNC
Sorry for the noob question but I just picked up a set of plugs for my R1200RT ... got the BMW OEM DCPR8EKC. These are dual ground which I had not seen before so the question is do I need to gap these or should they be pre-gapped? Link to comment
RTinNC
WOW ... it appears this is a REALLY dumb question of I have stumped all of the centers of RT knowledge. hmmm. Link to comment
Guest Kakugo
Gap is preset at 1mm which is what BMW recommends. PS: these are the same spark plugs as used on most FIAT gasoline engines... Link to comment
racer7
Actually 1.0 mm is the outer wear limit on these plugs. The gap spec is 0.8 mm and they come essentially on target. You will need a wire gap gage to check them due to the shape of the ground electrode. My first stock set wore to 1.1 to 1.2 mm (from 0.8 mm) in the 24K change interval recommended for my 08 RT with the wear being visible as a slight conical taper developed by the center electrode. I replaced them with the same NGK plug except that it has platinum electrodes rather than nickel/copper. Its a plug used in some BMW 6 cyl car motors. Link to comment

I did get it all sorted out and your gap setting was correct ... I used what my owners manual said .03 in. .. assume that equals .8mm and yes they were pretty close right out of the box just made a minor tweak on 2 of them. I would have probably used the Bosch OEM plug from Beemer Boneyard but I wanted to do it on Sunday so make a trip to my dealer and got the BMW only plug. All went fine and bike seems to purrrr now. They were the original plugs and the bike has 18K. I thought the plug swap interval was 12k ? Either way ... thanks! Link to comment
