AdirondackJack
I know that mirror removal was a snap on the '08, and that you have to release the mirrors now through that screw hole underneath, but it sure would be helpful to know the various tricks. I assume the screw is a torx, but what size? details, etc.? Thanks in advance. Dave R. Link to comment
BrianM
Use a T25 to reach up through the hole (actually 2 holes) then move the mirror to line up the screw with the wrench. Loosen a few turns - the screw is a clamp screw, there is some overlap between the screw and the mount. Once loosened, pry the mirror (glass part only) off - start from the bottom seems to work better. Once the glass is removed, 2 more screws need to be removed to take off the entire mirror. AdirondackJack
Thanks. Will try it and report back. Cheers, Dave R. Link to comment
AdirondackJack
Stopped at Sears and picked up a brand new T-25 to do the job. Found that the screw above the hole was in the very front of the mirror. You need to know this in order to get the job done. Worked like a charm. Thanks BrianM. Love this forum! Dave R. BrianM
You're welcome. Yes the screw is just behind the mirror - slide the T25 up the back of the mirror to find the screw. Can take a little fiddling to find the screw. When you loosen, the screw head will become visible. Link to comment
AdirondackJack
Hi BrianM- Just to be clear (and with all due respect), I did not find the screw by sliding the screwdriver up behind the mirror, but rather on the front edge on the bottom of the mirror. I am sharing this in the event that someone else is looking to remove his/her mirrors, and now would know where to look as a result of reading this. Peace! Dave R. Link to comment
Derek D
I got squeezed while lane splitting from a minivan that moved in from the left and in attempting to evade, I lightly tagged a poor guy in an older Toyota Corolla on the right. It was about 50mph, but all that happened was my right mirror glass flew off my 2011 R1200RT and onto the highway (we pulled over and did the info swap, nobody was hurt). Anyway, I just ordered the right mirror glass (about $55 from an online parts place, hope I didn't pay too much). I will take as many photos as I can of the assembly and where the screw(s) are as I figure it out and post it back to this forum. This thread is about the only place I've found on the internet with some advice on the mirror replacement matter! -Derek Link to comment
awagnon
Thanks for the instructions. However, I'm having trouble visualizing this. Anyone have a diagram or picture? Link to comment
