Hey,

New guy here from the mountains of western North Carolina. I've been riding and working on motorcycles since I was about 14, and that was 45 years ago. Rode a few BMW's, but never owned one. I just bought my first one. (is it cool to say beemer here?) It's a '96 R1100RTsort of a basket case. The guy who owned it, took all the plastic off to clean it, and then he died. I bought it from the estate. It actually runs very well, I put a battery in it and rode it the three miles from the sale to my house. Several minor pieces and a bunch of hardware is missing. I just made the first parts order, and will be trying to get it together in time to ride it some this season. And I'll be asking a lot of dumb noob questions.

Oh wow!

Something else to watch out for.

Taking tupperware off to clean it could result in my death... :dopeslap::dopeslap:

Seriously, Good Luck!

Welcome to the asylum. Beemer is OK, cheap even works at times for the nut between the seat and handlebars.

Just don't start an oil thread.

Welcome!

The stainless steel buttonhead socket cap screw kit, from A&S Cycles for the tupperware includes a map of where each one goes.

Welcome!

From the pic it looks very nice, other than the missing parts.

What happened to all the parts? He didn't just toss them, did he?

Hope you got it for a decently cheap price though. Those parts don't exactly grow on trees.

Regards

Bernd

Actually, there is a place in Western NC where parts appear to grow on a tree.

All the "Tupperware" is with it except a couple of small pieces ($100 apiece!) This stuff evidently shrinks as it ages. Mounting holes don't line up too well.

No manuals with it, so I'm in the dark about a lot of general maintenance details. Sorry. Oil was going to be my next question. I guess I'll read a little before I mention that again.

Thanks for the tip about the stainless hardware kit. Most of the mounting hardware is missing and I'm ordering what I need now.

Welcome on board. That bike is a great looking find. Plastic... aka Tupperware... is easy to re-mount.

We put it on/take it off all the time for various reasons.

A good source for parts, other than the dealers, is beemerboneyard.

Look 'em up. Good guys, fair prices, and they know their stuff.

OBTW did you know your neck of the woods is about to be invaded by hundreds of us? the UN Rally.
