DaveTheAffable
I will likely be in the market for purchasing a new seat for my 2010 R1200RT soon. I am curious though. I have seen some advertisements for new seats, or people selling used seats, that claim seats will fit "any" R1200RT. Other places they will say it only fits through 2008, or 2009, or... Can anyone give me a brief, definitive answer to the question, "What fits what?" Link to comment
GRB60
05 thru 11 all the same. I swiped the following from the ebay post for the BMW comfort seat: If you're looking for a little more comfort and want to stay with factory accessories, BMW now offers an excellent comfort seat for the R1200RT. Available in Black only, this easily installs on all model year RT's from 2005 to current. Link to comment
Desert John
Yeah, but I was told by my dealer that the comfort seat is lower than the standard seat. I'm going with Russell on my '10 RT. Link to comment

wbrissette
After I rob a bank, I'm considering the Touratech seat for my '09. They do claim it fits up to the current model. So, I don't think they changed the mounts. Wayne Link to comment
GRB60
It IS lower... but it fits. Every seat available is going to be a little different in height. In addition to the actual distance from the floor, keep in mind that if it is wider it is effectively putting you farther from the ground. I started with a factory low seat, so the Comfort Seat is taller. Bottom line: it's best to try before you buy if the height of the seat is an issue for you. Link to comment
99Roadster
I put this together a while ago just for reference; Standard Seat: 820/840mm (32.283/33.070in) Comfort Seat: 785mm (30.9in) Two-piece low: 780/800mm (30in.708/31.496in) One-piece low: 768mm (30.236in) Lowered suspension with one-piece: 750mm (29.527in) Link to comment
na1g
I put on a Sargent front soon after getting my 2011 RT. Same height as original but wider where the sit-bones go. Significant improvement on rides longer than an hour. Sargent will sell you the front seat only (it may not be shown on their confusing website, so call them) and can be had heated or not. The seating material doesn't match the original BMW material, but if you get both front and back seats they will match each other. And you don't need to provide a seat pan; they make the whole seat assembly so you don't have to give up riding while they build on your seat pan. A worthwhile farkle for me. pete Link to comment

DiggerJim
I'm going with Russell on my '10 RT. I think a custom seat is the 2nd most important farkle you can do to the bike (1st being some extra lights - I live in forest rat country). I should have done it before all the other mods & the attempts to make the stock seat more comfy (sheepskin, Airhawk, beads...). Looked at a Russell but went with a Bill Mayer Saddles seat. Bill's dad (also Bill) created the Russell Day Long, sold to Russell & he and Bill started BMS. The Russell is the best (only?) option for folks who are north of 225 or so because of its springs. That makes it bigger/wider & to some viewpoints uglier. The BMS is all foam of various densities on your stock pan, the vinyl matches the stock pillion (or you can get leather) and is the most comfortable seat I've ridden. I put 900 miles on it two days after I got it and couldn't have been happier - never thought about my butt except in passing "hmmm...I don't notice any butt issues". My seat spent 14 days off the bike - 12 of them were in transit from CT to CA & back. It only took them 2 days to make my seat & get it back on its way to me. Could only have sped it up by shipping faster than ground. But I had a spare seat I got just for this purpose so I could still ride. They retained the stock heat in the new seat. The seat builder even called me once it arrived in their shop to go over the info I had provided and make sure I didn't have any last minute changes or additions. Stunning customer service! I understand his brother (Rick Mayer) also builds custom seats but was not part of the Bill & Bill venture after the sale to Russell. Also saw a bit of mixed reviews of customer service in terms of Rick. But he does have sales & I believe is somewhat cheaper than Bill. If you're under 225lbs, I'd suggest taking a look at BMS. They fit the bike's lines better, are more streamlined & less "after market add on" looking. If you're more solidly built, then I don't think you can go wrong with a Russell. Link to comment

How tall are you? What is your weight? What is your inseam? I'm thinking about a Sargent Seat also. But there seats are pre-maid, not custom, and they come with there own seat pan. They look like nice seats with some usefull options for storage under them. My biggest concern is I bought a used Sargent seat from Bloodsworth BMW in 2004 for my then 2004 K1200GT, It was very firm and not comrtable at all, the stock seat was better. I don't want to spend $750.00 on a seat that will be to hard and uncomfortable. However they do have a 30 day complete return policy. Look forward to your reply, THanks. RTKolenda Link to comment
