Just got a Givi 450 top case for my '99 1100RT.My wife and I both love it.Extra storage and mostly for the backrest. We did about 600 miles over the weekend.I didn't have time to order the exact mounting rack for my RT.I did put on the universal rack. Not to happy with the results. The trunk is not as tight as I would like it to be.How much better is the rack especially made for the RT?

Is it missing any of the rubber plugs that locate on the base plate? If these are missing or badly worn, the box can wiggle some.

Ditto.

Sr and Jr do more than just sell GIVI.

They know the product line, have excellent service and are good folks.

Yes, watch for missing plugs. And, if you find these little rubber plugs on your garage floor later, don't assume they are garbage and throw them away. (mumble mumble mumble)

The universal rack has bolts and metal clamps. And bolts on top of the RT rack.I had to bend them a little bit to get the clamps to grab the bottom of the rack tight. The specific RT rack from Givi, replaces the top of the BMW rack. This must fit much better. The part number is E183.

Your universal rack should not be loose. Either the fixtures holing it to the top box rack are not correct, or the 4 rubber plugs that fix into the top plate are not right, or the top box mounting points are worn.

However the specific rack replaces the grab rail / OEM top box mount. Once in place it is solid.

It secures to the ame places. There are 2 upstands on the bikes rear subframe that have M6 threads. The left and rifht hand rails have 4 in total M5 bolts.

The Givi rack accepts these 4 off m5 bolts to secore the front. The rear has a couple of tubular spacers to kick the GIVI rack to the angle they decided was correct. Onto this secures the top plate by means of 4 off M6 bolts, washers and locknuts. Once everything is bolted down, a plastic cover plate goes on top and clicks into place. It is prevented from un clicking by means of 4 small self tapping countersunk screws
