wildcatpat
I am headed out in about 10 days for a 10 day ride. I plan to head east out of KC to St. Louis, visit BMWMOA, visit some family, then go down thru Oklahoma City, more family, then head on to Colorado for 4-5 days of riding(more family in Denver). I may stop at the gun museum in Claremore, OK, heard it is a good one. Anyone have any other ideas on good rides/places to see or rides to do? I will be alone, so am fairly flexible. Haven't had a good ride for awhile. Any ideas? Link to comment

wildcatpat
Thanks, that is the stuff I am lookin for, and any great roads to ride. Want to do route 66 out of St. Louis, maybe to Albequerque(sp)., then up to Salida, Co. to Denver, creating little side rides on the way. Link to comment
ElevenFifty
Capulin Volcano - worth the visit - google it. Target Clayton NM. Just to the west of Clayton, 20 miles or so, turn right on 325 into the Capulin National Monument ... you drive to the top of the largest cinder cone volcano in North America - the view is spectacular. Then take 325 north to Folsom NM and then take 72 to Raton NM and pick up 24 to Denver. 72 is a high plains road ... no traffic, good pavement, bluebirds everywhere. Keep watching to the northeast (your right) and be prepared to stop. There is a view between 2 bluffs where you look down on the Great Plains from a height of 2000 ft or so ... the plains stretch away to infinity - I found it to be breathtaking. I really liked this little road. There are good back roads from Colorado Springs into Denver that go right past the Garden of the Gods park. While you are in Denver area, pick a weekday and ride up to the top of Mt Evans ... highest paved road in the US - traffic can be intimidating on a pretty weekend - view is spectacular. Find the Buckshort Saloon - the name is the only clue you get ... consider it a challenge. Roads to it are unpaved but excellent if dry. Link to comment
TEWKS
Best Burger in Denver sez me! Toss a dart, it's all good! Visit Royal Gorge Bridge and Park & try this. Did I mention I really like Colorado! Pat Link to comment
