Trav1150
Recently I paid almost $1,000 Aussie dollars to a local BMW dealer to replace the clutch slave cylinder on my R1150RT. They claimed they spent 6 hours in labour. Seemed a bit rich to me. Is 6 hours a reasonable time to do the job or have I been ripped off? Link to comment
pickersgill1
Hi I collected my 2004 R1150RT on Saturday from a independent trained BMW specialist who replaced the complete clutch, carried out a major service/inspection & tune up, he confirmed the BMW book time is 6 hours labour to replace the clutch. I paid £796.00 for the major service/inspection, service parts, clutch assembley & labour, the bike was transformed and a pleasure to ride again with lots of smiles. The bike is sat on the drive, the sun is out and using it this morning on a 200+ mile business trip.....yippeee Link to comment
Haynes
Hi Trav, After the floods in Queensland I know things are tough but 6 hours seems a bit steep. I fitted a clutch in my RT a few weeks ago and can't see why it would take 6 hours for just a slave cylinder replacement. It would take only an hour or so to remove the telelever. The slave cylinder is held in by three screws and one hydraulic line. That's about 90 minutes work. Assembly would take a bit longer for torque settings etc. I reckon 4 hours would be a generous estimate. Link to comment
Jim Moore
That seems a little steep. If they're charging that kind of coin for typical maintenance it might be a good time to learn how to do it yourself. Link to comment

I took less than 4 hours to do it, without previous experience, and including the time to make up a "Special" tool. The job IS a major pain in the a$$, plus bleeding the damn thing can be problematic. But, for a tech with all the equipment, 2 hours, maybe. That is allowing 45 minutes to bleed the SOB. ragtoplvr
Before anyone can determine if the cost was excessive we need to know if the clutch was replaced. The slave failure often oils the clutch, causing the transmission to need removed. Rod Link to comment
Trav1150
The clutch was definitely NOT replaced, only the slave cylinder. Link to comment
scottgr
It doesn't matter how long it actually takes to do the job; it's all about the book time, which is apparently 6 hours. Link to comment
Rich06FJR1300
lot of time...then did they do the 'weep hole' fix? Link to comment
